Thames Festival: SIGN THE PETITION to re-instate public dancing

In this London Olympic year, there should be some healthy activity open to the public at the Mayor's Thames Festival.

In previous years, that has been supplied by several "dance stages", areas in which music, and some lessons, were provided, for anyone to join in (jive, swing, tango, etc).

They were very popular, attracting both experienced dancers and first-time dancers.

They were also very popular with spectators: at good sites, the number of spectators was limited only by the availability of space (you can see the crowds here 2009_JiveStage_Barry_Lewis_Big_Swing_4.jpg and in the video at the bottom of http://thamesfestiva...ar/festival2011).

Until a few months ago, the lead photo on the festival website was still the 2009 jive stage photo:

The 2012 festival organisers have announced that "we don’t currently have plans for any dance stages this year".

So there will, for the first time, be no healthy activities for the London public to participate in (except of course for walking).

Please keep London healthy and happy, SIGN THE PETITION to re-instate the very popular dance stages:

and then SHARE WITH ALL YOUR FRIENDS!
