I don't see it as predictable at all. I would never have predicted half of those artists (if I'd even heard of them all).

Here's a challenge for anyone that thinks it's predictable - make a prediction for the next group of artists to be announced and let's see how close you get.

Underwhelming? Perhaps, but then again the festival doesn't sell itself on the star power of its line up. This will be my sixth EOTR, and my perception is that the festival now has a pretty large core of people who come back year after year because they know it's reliably a great experience - irrespective of who is on the bill. By which I mean that EOTR is more than the sum of it's line up - and that's what they were always trying to achieve.

The question to ask yourself is "Was I underwhelmed afterwards?". The numbers of people who come back year after year suggests that for many (most?) the answer is "No".

It seems to me it's a very EOTR type of line up.. a mix of the obscure, the up and coming, the esoteric cult artist, and the established. Bring it on.

Curious announcement for me this one......none of the the acts I was really hoping for (Eels, Polyphonic Spree, Dawes, Admiral fallow, Dan Mangan, tall ships, jayhawks, tribes, the soundtrack of our lives, to name but nine).

Only two acts I really, really like - Caitlin Rose and Frightened Rabbit.

And yet I'm far more upbeat than I can I explain - I think the DB&StV thing will be utterly special..........and I'm already loving Mark Mulcahy and Heartless Bastards.

Fortunately I haven't bought tickets yet this year and, looking at the line up so far, I won't be.

I really expected the Spree, Lord Huron and Allah-Las to be in this batch but no such luck.

I guess it will be Latitude or Green Man (Band of Horses, Moon Duo and Arbouretum are better than anything announced so far for EOTR) this year.

I personally think this is shaping up to be one of the better, and more interesting, line ups of the last 6 years (I first started going in 2008 and have been back every year since).

Last year, I was getting bored of EOTR. I was bored of seeing the same old bands doing the same old things. Having been to NDH as well, there was also far too much crossover between the two festivals.

And while I do love a drop of Americana (a necessity if one is to continually venture to EOTR and enjoy oneself), the lack of variety troubled me. There were times when there was little discernable difference between the acts on any of the stages at any given time.

This year, they seem to be moving slightly away from this formula which was, for me at least, becoming tired and predictable. Their headliners are genuine coups for such a small festival, the undercard is shaping up very nicely indeed, and above all, there is some real variety which will make things very interesting.

They could have booked predictable headliners, such as Animal Collective, Sufjan Stevens, Decemberists etc - who I would have geniunely liked to have seen - but I actually salute the bravery of this departure from the banal.

Perhaps the lack of NDH disctraction may have allowed them to focus more on EOTR this year, and I think this has led to more creativity: perhaps the reverse was true last year, hence the predictable line up and feeling of regurgitating the same lack of inspiration.

In sum - a great job. Keep the announcements coming: I am looking forward to this year's festival with more excitement than the last few.
