Biggest might not mean "popularity", but "size". Whether that be number of members (Polyphonic Spree) or actual size. Maybe it's The Tallest Man On Earth, and they've got confused.

Whoever it is, the anticipation is building and I'm poised by Spotify, ready to compile my 2013 playlist!

Eels have had 7 top twenty albums (two top ten) not to mention a few hit singles - all of which is way ahead of The National, never mind Mogwai or Joanna Newsom.

Worldwide their album sales are in the Millions.

I still pick The Polyphonic Spree though - but only really cos I haven't seen them before.

Can't I have both??????

And The Decemberists! ;-)

I think, given the comments, the favourite must be Nick Cave (having been persuaded by Warren) though.

I love this time of year, I feel like the old Kremlinologists must have felt, trying to work out exactly what the cryptic messages coming out of Moscow meant.

To add to the debate: "the most special headliner and certainly the biggest act to ever play EOTR" could technically refer to two acts ;)

I'm starting to like Zahid's argument about the National - it's exactly what happened with Patti Smith last time where she was announced straight after Hop Farm. I thought they might be too big, but maybe not. Geof's argument about Cave makes sense too. I wonder about Eels seeing as he's over here in March? But then the timing might fit as he's had a while to sell tickets to his own shows. Any of National, Eels, Decemberists, Nick Cave, PJH would be fucking amazing. Don't know Polyphonic Spree at all.

I've got a feeling for Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds and/or Arcade Fire.

Please could I put in a request for King Charles and - new, wonderful band - Hot Feet.

Smoke Fairies would be great too.

Oh, and Bill Fay would be just perfect.

And finally, see The Growlers back again would be very welcome too...
