NEXT GEN CONSOLES

The Nal

Recommended Posts

Was that the deal that had all 3 for £170? It went up to £200 but when I went to pick it up yesterday? Went through as £170 - happy days! Not had a shot of Little Big Planet yet, downloaded a couple of demos instead :) Any apps I should get?

Treasures of Montezuma Blitz

Ecolibrium

Both are free to download full games that are pretty damn good and have trophy support.

Get plus asap, next update is June 5th, leaving the service will be Sine Mora & Velocity Ultra and joining will be Rayman Origins and Coconut Dodge.

Gravity Rush and Uncharted are mainstays on plus until around October I think then they will change.

If you're unsure on plus basically whatever you buy, you keep until your subscription expires, use the website to buy the games as you can then download them at any point in future.

Gunna buy Men's Room Mayhem cus its only £1 for plus members at the mo [its £1.99 full price but still a £1 a game, no probs] https://store.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com/#!/en-gb/men's-room-mayhem/cid=EP4337-PCSB00313_00-MENSROOM00000002

True. If it can get a few of the big name titles on it, it may be a success but it won't get compare with Sony and MS if they just go with Android functionality.
I know open-sourcing it popular at the moment but I can't see it taking over as it is still a thing for the talented hard-core.

I doubt it'll get the huge name titles, but it'll probably get a few of the smaller companies that are fairly big in the gaming community developing stuff for it which could go well.

Regardless, it'll be at least 2 years before I buy a new console.

Maybe the problem is that you're on 360 and they have relied upon old favourites like Halo rather than developing new story based games. Saying that, Alan Wake is meant to be good and most of my list below is made up of multi-platform games. I'm speaking here as a PS3 gamer but here some games that are one-offs and others that are sequels that are excellent story tellers.

One-Offs: Tell Tale's Walking Dead ( Ok, a Sequel is coming soon), Heavy Rain, L.A Noire, Red Dead Redemption

Sequels: Call of Duty 4 (Story wise the series went shit after W@W though), Batman: Arkham Games, Uncharted Series, Portal 2, Resistance: Fall of Man, Bioshock 1, Deux Ex: Human Revoluton,

There are probably more too. What I have found with this generation is that that the big games from last gen have been a bit of a let down story wise. GTA IV was just convoluted and boring, MGS 4 was decent but also convoluted, Resident Evil 5 and 6 were rubbish.

Still quite a lot out there though. My favourite story games have been the large RPGs like Skyrim and Fallout. I've found myself the most involved with them even though the main path isn't that exciting which is why I didn't name them above. If I was to name the top 5 games I've played this gen with great involving stories I'd say:

1. Telltale's: The Walking Dead
2. Uncharted 2
3. Heavy Rain
4. Batman: Arkham Asylum
5. Portal 2

Is the Walking Dead game just ripping the story from the comic/tv show or has it got its own more like the Batman: Arkham games? (which I did really enjoy actually, moreso Asylum).

Didn't hear anything good about Heavy Rain or LA Noire, didn't get on great with Red Dead Redemption when I gave that a go. CoD4 was only good by CoD standards, I played a fair whack of Uncharted at a mates' once and didn't think it anything special. Portal 2 was brilliant. I know jack about Resistance: Fall of Man, but it's PS3 exclusive anyway. I might give Bioshock another go at some point, but I struggled to get started in it. Deus Ex makes me nostalgic really.

I really don't like the large RPGs. Never got on with Morrowind or Oblivion so didn't bother with Skyrim, I found Fallout 3 pretty awful having loved the first 2 about 10 years ago, I tried Fable which was pretty respected but found that poor. It's not the sort of game I find engaging I guess.

TBH fuck the "story" of game, the 1st thing I always look for is the gameplay and if it has a good story than it's a bonus. I do however have a tendacy to pick up games that try to create a unique world or has a charm about them rather than the bog standard kill stuff games/FPS.

I don't mean to say that it's the only thing that matters, loads of games I've played have only a fairly minimal one. I think you've got it right in saying the ones that try to create a unique world. I think one of the problems I have is that most have a type of gameplay that gets repetitive and the story is what drives it.

I have both LA Noire and Mass Effect 2 & 3 untouched still to play for my PS3 and Lollypop Chainsaw, Vanquish, Crysis 2, Infamous 2 and quite a few more, got a massive backlog!

RE: Walking Dead its an original story set as soon as the 'infection' hits, but you do meet a few characters from the show/comics.

I wonder where the sequel will take us?

http://www.cubed3.com/news/18854/1/wii-u-uk-sales-skyrocket-on-amazon-uk-after-xbox-one-showing.html

Wii U sales have jumped 800% since the Xbox 1 reveal and is only behind Fifa 13 in the games catogery on Amazon.

Also not sure if it was mentioned in the thread earlier but the Xbox 1 the camera will monitor people watching a rental movie and if goes over a certain amount of people it will refuse to play.

What happens if you turn the kinect facing the wall? I really don't care if the new Xbox can scratch my arse whilst changing the channel, just get sega to remake streets of rage and I'll buy one!

Wii U isn't even in the top 100 now so that lasted long, if you buy a wii U, good for you but won't last long.

And that spying thing, yet more bad press for X box One, its just one bad PR piece after another.

I think the Wii U will be around for a while, once a new 3d Mario & Zelda game are announced and released it'll do similar buiness to the Gamecube.

something like this... a decent alternative to new consoles. £300 steam box.

I built myself a gaming pc last year, cost around £450, but the games on it look so much better, got myself a pc xbox controller and ive never looked back, my consoles don't get used now, games on the pc can be picked up for next to nothing on steam, recently bought dead space 1&2 for £6 and alan wake/alan wakes american nightmare for 69p!

I know for a fact there will be a mario kart game out for Christmas... But you didn't hear it from me...

Edit, also new smash bros early next year.

Will the 3DS Smash Bros being coming out at the same time as the Wii U version?

TBH for at least the next 2 years I'm happy to stick with my PC and 3DS for my gaming needs.

I know they are placeholder prices, but I wouldnt be stunned if the price was around there. IIRC, the 360 was £379-£399 and the PS3 was over £400 at launch. That was obviously 8 years ago.

I hope both parties have a stunning E3 lined up......
