NEXT GEN CONSOLES

ugh, Dualshock 4.

Best controlled I've ever had, albeit only had Nintendo and Sony consoles. Would be nice if I could turn that damn light off though!

Seems like such a common thing in games now, one company takes the lead, then get arrogant and makes poor decisions leading to their downfall. Really does just feel like arrogance - Sony thought they could do whatever they wanted with the PS3 and it'd win because the PS2 was such a goliathe. 360 was the strongest console in sales by the end of the last cycle meaning Microsoft thought they could get away with more, while 6 years of hurt for Sony made them make logical, sensible decisions and make an all round better proposition of a games console.

PS4 still needs games though, sounds like Sony's first party is going through a lot of issues at the moment and its lead to a scarse early 2014 lineup and still dodgy exclusive holiday line up. Although it matters less nowadays as the third parties put out some brilliant games now anyway.

Always hated sony controllers, if you could get a 360 controller for a ps3 I would have bought one ages ago. and if I could get a 360 (or even at a push, a "one") controller for the ps4, I'd consider buying a ps4 this month. I fucking hate them. Built for small girls hands they are. That sounds like a deliberate troll, but I'm being a little tongue in cheek. I do hate them though.Thumbstick clash winds me right up.

xbox d-pad was always shite, even when they brought out the new "improved" one. that was utter shit too.

the d-pad on the xbox one controller is a lot better, although I dont play fighting games so cant be seen as an expert on such matters.

the actual controller for the xbox one is nothing impressive though, its still better than a sony one, and the resistive triggers are quite nice, but it feels very plasticy in comparison to a sturdy 360 pad.

You have Far Cry Blood Dragon, right? Well worth a shot.

PS, Saint's Row 3 is available on Xbox Live Gold for free download, bitches!! The city isn't as quite interesting as SR1/2 and there's not as "much" to do/see, but the core game is slick and at least this one has consistent framerates for shooting and driving. Weird-as-fuck missions too. Tiger Escorts and Pony Traps, anyone?

Far Cry 3 is one of my fave games of all time. Blood Dragon is the best add-on I've ever played. I really hope 4 lives up to it.

help me please!

Any FIFA players out there? I need some guidance from someone who knows it inside out. We had tears last night because I refused to allow my lad to pay for in app purchases on his 360. He claims he cant progress because he doesnt have any team slots or transfer slots (cant remember which tbh) I dont wanna be a c**t about it, and it is his money, but I really fucking hate the way kids these days are being brainwashed that its the norm to pay for progression, especially in a full priced game.

Its FIFA 14 btw, he also has world cup, but I think its 14 he is talking about.

ugh, Dualshock 4.

I couldn't stand the PS3 controller, it was far too small and not very comfortable, I also didnt like that it was so light! the 360 controller I thought was great (was just them shitty bumpers and d-pad that let it down), but the Dualshock 4 is perfect. I can not find a single thing about it that I don't like.

Since the latest firmware update you now have the option to turn the light off? or dim it if preferable? hold the PS button and go to "Adjust Devices" select "Dualshock 4" and it should be in there somewhere.

I don't play much FUT (Fifa Ultimate Team, which is the expensive DLC mode) as basically to me as you said its paying to win/progress faster as the lower levels are so tedious but its a full priced game but my impressions from using my free packs/coins is that you can indeed become a bit stuck without buying more bits.

I think there are some lower level touranments though, you can play to earn coins to buy the better DLC for free. (These are a major grind, because hey no one is going pay for it, if they are not :P).

Other parts of the actual game are still avaliable to him though (Kick Off/Seasons/Carear) which don't need DLC but these are all based on real world teams than creating your own out of "star" players.

Thanks Tom, it would appear that they are trying to get as many kids as possible hooked on this in some kind of perverse "trading card/panini sticker" type trading game?

It really pisses me off, we end up as parents having to deal with Match Attax every season, Paninis every major tournament, and now this bollocks. I know we can so "no", and I do, but he has a gift subscription to "Match Of The Day" magazine, and they send the fucking albums out with their mag, with a few free stickers - then we are fucked.

Can you tell I'm not impressed?

I play PES but the students at the school I work at talk about Fifa ultimate team and I'm shocked at how much some of them have spent/wasted on it. You must have to start over each year too? Or do your players transfer across the yearly updates?

A couple of years ago, when I was in year 11, my mate literally spent every bit of money he earnt on it, and played it until 4/5 every morning, through his GCSE's, and subsequently messed them all up. A few months later he realised how stupid it was and stopped playing it.

Unbelievable. One kid at our school bought something to do with it from some website and it turned out to be fake.

A couple of years ago when UT was at peak I paid over £150 on 'packs' and I never got anyone good! It really is a scam, EA make it so it is extremely rare to get any good players these packs.. that's how they get all their money, people hoping to get Ronaldo or Messi! I've stopped playing UT this year though, only ever play seasons now.

I thought the sticker books had stopped being so popular, but they do seem to have given out the packs and initial stickers quite a bit this year. (And seem to reinvented online with some sort of online swapshop and hash tag!) but yes that is basically what it is, a trading card game built into FIFA.

I didn't think about kids getting addicted to it and spending all their pocket money actually. Its exactly like a drug dealer giving you the first hit free almost!

I detest FUT to its fullest, it symbolises everything wrong about the "freemium" model or in this case preminum on top of a large purchase and the thing is, there isn't that much they actually make for FUT on of the normal game. Basically you are paying EA to build another UI that extorts even more money from you :P

But then i see myself just as bad for handing over money to EA for the main game!

I've played UT and never bothered putting any real money into it. I still had a bit of fun with it for a while. It was a different way to build a squad up and decent enjoyment. If you don't want to pay money for microtransactions it doesn't force you.

No it doesn't force you and I suppose it doesnt force anybody. But when you have a ten y/o who thinks his dad is being deliberately horrible to him for not letting him spend his birthday money on some bollocks that he doesnt need, its not a particularly nice position to be in.

Regarding fremium, I hope that some sort of regulation is brought in to control this. As T8yman says, no one is forcing you to pay, but the pester power of kids (when combined with peer pressure they are receiving) is a major factor.

EA are certainly among the worst for it. I used to play a c+c fremium game when I was recovering from surgery and poured more than the cost of a AAA title into booster packs over the course of a couple of months.

Agreed, but its not just the freemium model at play here, its a freemium mode tacked on to a full priced (and hugely popular and well selling) game. That's even more sinister imho.

Fair point. I genuinely don't see how it adds to the fun to buy those, but I can see kids getting compelled to accelerate to the best, and I guess that's where they target making the most money from it.
