Rumour was it was Mission Impossible as Cruise and McQuarrie had been spotted on the escalators the week prior. As I made my way back with my paper I glanced inside the empty john lewis that had been done up to look like an airport lounge and there was Tom Cruise standing stock still, adorned in his sharp blue suit replete with aviator shades and doing that big smile of his. I felt like the young Bernadette witnessing the apparition of Our Lady at Lourdes.

There's a story in August 2021 of him going to a curry house in Birmingham, eating a tikka masala and liking it so much that he ordered and ate another one. Though tbf, that is quite the cool little insert to say you gotta see.

I have a real soft spot for that film) but so so so much better than the 4th. Lot of fun moments, some really lovely ones, and I did like Phoebe Waller-Bridge's character. It absolutely needs to end now though. I went to see it yesterday and wasn't overly impressed. It went a bit silly a few too many times - too many coincidences / plot holes for my liking. I'm quite happy to suspend belief for a film, but this one was a bit much. Kids loved it though. Agree about PWB's character - a highlight. FloorFiller
Just been to see MI: Dead Reckoning. Whilst I did enjoy it, there were several choices throughout the film that I wasn’t a fan of, and I think the overall vibe of it was a little off. The humour seemed too frequent and forced, with what seemed like almost every line being a little wink or a nod in a very Marvel way, and I think the overall plot/main threat was a bit lame, like they felt the need to raise the stakes but with the need to really suspend your disbelief, even for A MI film. Still good and very entertaining, but a tad disappointing after the high bar set by the last few, albeit with some pretty incredible set pieces as standard. steviewevie
Saw latest Indiana Jones film yesterday and it was a big hit in our house. The missus is a big Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) fan so she was happy as a pig in sh*t, and my kid thought it was the best film ever. Rufus Gwertigan
How to blow up a pipeline on Netflix. Sort of like an environmental sabotage heist movie. Well worth a watch.

Yeah it wasn’t what I was expecting although I did sink 4 tequilas just before going in. It had a very self aware vibe similar to The Lego Movie/Free Guy. I was wondering how they were going to add a plot to something that essentially doesn’t have a plot other than girl likes boys and clothes. mungo57
saw Oppenheimer on Saturday. Excellent film. I'd be staggered if it doesn't win lots of awards over the awards season. Reckon Cillian Murphy is a shoe-in for Best Actor. I'm thinking of going to see it again, I enjoyed it that much.
stanh
Saw Barbie today, absolutely fantastic - really wasn't what I was expecting, but really enjoyed it and thought the casting and directing all just worked so so so well. Already hoping to see it again soon, same with Oppenheimer (saw that on Friday), which I think could be Nolan's best film (need to see it again, and in IMAX to fully confirm). Only down side to Oppenheimer was its length, but think I may be in the minority with that, especially as I have a pretty poor attention span haha. Great to see them both doing well commercially and critically, haven't seen the cinema this busy in a while!

I think cinemas needed that tbf. A lot of films that came out in the last year and a half seem to have underperformed and the competition from the 500+ streaming platforms is fierce. I haven't seen Oppenheimer yet but intend to this weekend.

It's going to take something very impressive to beat Cillian Murphy. I really liked it and I'm not usually much of a Nolan fan. 3 hours is too long but at the same time it didn't drag, especially when you consider so much of it is "men in rooms talking"

Guess I'm guilty of not going to the cinema as much, but defo gone more this year with releases like M3GAN, Cocaine Bear, Super Mario etc. Nice to see it busy again. Will be heading back soon for Mission Impossible.

I love Nolan's films and when I heard he was doing a biopic of Oppenheimer a few years ago with Cillian Murphy as J Robert I was very happy. That was an interesting period in our history and I've always been fascinated by it all so to see it on film was excellent. I'd say it's very close for me with my 2 fave directors, Tarantino and Nolan. Not that a Tarantino biopic of Oppenheimer would be any good mind 😄

Watched the new documentary, To End All Wars, afterwards too. Nolan stuck really closely to what actually happened.

FloorFiller
Couldn’t convince anybody to go see Barbie with me so just got really high and went on my own. Absolutely loved it! Haven’t laughed that much or that consistently at a film in a longgg time and the whole thing was just such a joy to watch with everybody giving it their absolute all. Was expecting to like it but really wasn’t expecting to love it as much as I did.

steviewevie
Saw Oppenheimer this afternoon and thought it was very good. A lot of it I didn't know what anyone was on about, but there was some nice bangs and flashing lights and Cillian Murphey's amazing face. I was up for Barbie but my daughter who is one of these young feminists you hear about thought it was at best lame, at worst sh*t, so not sure I'll bother although I am on old man so maybe it's meant for me. charlierc
I enjoyed Oppenheimer. The actual recreation of the Trinity Test was very well done, and as sound design was a particularly impressive technical act, plus I also found Downey Jr to be pleasingly menacing.
