Bit childish/fan fiction to me. Plus wtf has the force been doing in the other films, if its still asleep :P

I believe it's thirty years on from Return of the Jedi. I'd guess the force has been fairly dormant otherwise it'd have been set a year or so on from ROTJ.

Also all the titles are pants. :P

No one can make a Star Wars film that will have the same impact as the original trilogy.

Star Wars fans don't deserve nice things. Star Wars fans need to grow up. They are kids films, always were. People have these amazing rose tinted spectacles when it comes to SW, then they go all butt-hurt when the new one comes out and it doesn't make them tingle like it did when they were 12.

(bear in mind I saw ANH on its first cinema run as a 7 year old, had just about every toy they made)

I also saw Star Wars when I was seven, my grandmother too me to see it. Episode IV A New Hope was a retcon. The first three films are as good today as they were back then. No galaxy-spanning sci-fi drama has come close.

It wouldn't be very difficult to make a blindingly brilliant Star Wars reboot. Give it to someone with form in directing decent sci-fi (Planet of the Apes, Edge of Tomorrow, Maleficent, Robocop, Dredd) and give them the Revan arc (Knights of the Old Republic).

All the bits are there they just need putting together.

To be fair, The Phantom Menace WAS shit. Kids movies can be really entertaining. That wasn't. I enjoyed the other two enough though, outside of some horrific acting from Hayden Christensen and a horror show of a script which, again, isn't exactly a necessity for a kids movie.

I caught the original Star Wars movies late in the game, and still consider Empire Strikes Back to be an utter classic. The first three were pretty well done.

Firefly was pretty great but STAR WARS?

Wash your mouth out whilst you still have a mouth to wash out.

Seriously why is Star Wars so revered? The last 3 are a complete wash and the original 3 have a lot of problems, the 2nd one has a rubbish ending and the other 2 feel lightweight.

I suspect it has more to do with Star Wars being one of the early franchise films with its own universe like Harry Potter, Marvel etc which people love to buy into but the films on their own are entertaining enough but far from perfect classics that must be worshipped.

Watched Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes on saturday, got to admit I was a little disappointed tbh. I enjoyed it, but found it far less enjoyable than its predecessor.

The CGI was pretty good, and the performances very good, I just found it a little flat. I expected more, as it was widely revered by most of the reviewers I read.

Then who's been surrounding us and binding the galaxy together?

The original three are insanely great films, probably my favourite non-animated films ever. I saw The Phantom Menace and Attack Of The Clones as a child before the originals, and I had some banging Legos, toy lightsabers and Jar Jar Binks with a big long gooey tongue from a packet of crisps, so my nostalgia is firmly with them over the originals, and I now find them to be some of the most offensively bad films ever produced (but nowhere near as horrible as the third one). Yep, they're children's films, but pretty much all of the best films to ever be made are children's films.

Still seems odd, it just means they saved the Galaxy and then sat around doing fuck all for 30 years :P

I liked The Return of the Sith/Return of the Jedi titles as book ends. I guess what was hoping for something to fit into a new hope (A new force :P).

People like you are the reason Star Wars fans can't have nice things.

No but they could make a decent film set in the Star Wars universe Like some of the novels or KOTOR :P It doesn't really matter they are kids films, the Rebels show is more aimmed at kids than the prequels were and I am enjoying that alot! (That said being a kid during the Prequels era, I have a certain fondness for them :P)

Speaking of kids films, i see Pixar are making Toy Story 4. I hope its decent and not just cashing in, as the third one was the perfect way to end it.

TS4 = cash cow. Pretty much it's going to be Woody and Co wandering around a massive product placement advert for 2 hours with a vague story and some catchphrases.

Pretty much, yeah :( it makes me really sad that some of my most beloved films are being pulled out and dusted off for a blatant cash grab. I'm dreading The Incredibles 2, Walt Disney Animated Studios have poached a lot of the top Pixar talent and got them on the in-house stuff, which is why WDAS films are good again. Disney have resented Pixar for years, they came in after Disney's Renaissance died out and their output went shit, Pixar got all the box-office and critical love. There are reports of Disney bosses saying that Finding Nemo was shite before its release, and the ensuing flop would knock the cheeky bastards down a peg or two. Now WDAS are back on top, I think there'll be some suits who've been around a while, taking a certain delight in running Pixar into the ground.
