Right, Gone Girl.

It was the one film this year that I almost went to the cinema to see, I love Fincher, and I was pumped up by the massively positive (punter) reviews. I avoided all spoilers, and the only (pro) review I listened to all the way through was Kermodes. I only watched a trailer once.

I honestly don't believe I was expecting too much of it, I'm old enough to manage my expectations of a movie. I'm also intelligent enough to understand that just because a movie might not end the way you wanted it to, it doesnt make it a poor movie, or even a poor ending. Many movies with "anti ending" have been very highly rated in my personal opinion.

I loved the movie all of the way through. A friend who knew I was watching it texted me and said "how is it so far?" my reply was "loving it so far, reckon theres about half hour left". About 15 seconds after I sent the text, the credits rolled and I sat with my mouth open, staring at the screen, then looking at my missus.

I felt cheated, there was no ending, and what was there was so full of holes it left a massively bitter taste in my mouth.

spoilers

The two thieves (who watched that TV show every day) would have ID'd her straight away, and would have gone for the money from the TV company straight away.

No wound on Amy that would have bled to the degree of that stain on the kitchen floor, and bear in mind the doctor obviously examined her for evidence of rape.

She was held at the Lake House against her will, yet she arrived of her own accord and he left for work every day.

Nicks sperm sample had been destroyed by the clinic, so she couldnt be pregnant by him.

The female detective was stopped asking questions that Amy had no answers to, and no-one else in the room saw any value in questioning Amy? - Bullshit.

There are more, but I cant be arsed tbh.

I'm not saying "Dont watch it". As I said, I enjoyed it right up until the credits rolled. It was the fact they rolled that ruined it for me.

Yep, got to agree with them, another one that stood out for me

she was supposed to have been held against her will at the summer house and went to the trouble of acting like she had been raped for the security cameras, that record 24 hours a day, yet what about the rest of the time she was there acting normal with him, surely the police would have looked through all the tapes like she asked them to?

Very good film but ruined by far too many big plot holes

Agree with all the comments about the plot holes in Gone Girl, except for one detail. Didn't bother me at all. If I'm enjoying a film enough then a few holes like that just don't affect that enjoyment, particularly in a film that isn't trying to be remotely real. The whole film was ridiculous and I loved it. I even had to stifle a laugh at

the big reveal

cos it was so daft

She was so manipulative throughout, you have to assume that she edited the tapes.

1. They didn't recognise her but thats no big deal, happens a lot in movies. She did look different.

2. Assume her head wound healed in a month.

3. Again, you have to assume she forged the letter saying it was destroyed.

4. She had to stop asking questions, Americas lost darling, sat there covered in blood and having been "raped" consistently.

Really enjoyed Rosamund Pike's performance. They're talking Oscars. Loved her in Fracture but haven't really seen her in anything since.
