One is about a hard-as-nails spy defeating a supervillain through the use of outlandish gadgetry before shagging some world-class totty... the other is an lengthy advert by old people for BMW cars and Cartier watches.

I agree and disagree. I think Bond has moved away from the campy romp about the gentleman spy with an eye for the ladies; into a darker, more "Bourne" space, and Kingsmen has filled the gap left by it. I like the darker bond, and would like to see Elba have a go.

I agree with both points made above, Idris is now too old to be considered imo, but he would have made an excellent bond - and I think he is actually going to lengthen the period of time before we get a black bond, because contenders will always be compared to him when under consideration.

I went on a trailer binge the other day, and now have tons of films that I'm looking forward to for the rest of the year and into next. Including: Legend, The Program, The Martian, The Hateful Eight, Steve Jobs, Everest, Bridge of Spies

The remake of The Secret in Their Eyes looks rubbish.

Even if Craig wasn't doing another one after Spectre Elba is too old imo. You want someone who can do 10/15 years. I hope that Waltz is in fact Blofeld and that he has a recurring role in the coming films though

This I could see and I don't think I've ever heard anyone be anything other than blown away by Waltz.

The release rate of Bond films really counts against any sort of era for any lead actor these days, 3-5 films each means that no actor has a chance to compete with Connery and Moore.  I grew up on the Roger Moore era films being a christmas treat for the kids, then discovered the Connery years on many a lazy bank holiday afternoon, for me Bond will always be Roger Moore.

Waltz is a great actor. He has been helped in the last few years by having some great roles to play, but he deserves all the accolades he gets in my opinion.

I too see Moore as the definitive Bond. I actually studied and wrote about Moore-era Bond as part of my dissertation.

My list probably goes:

Moore

Connery

Craig

Brosnan

Dalton

Lazenby

(Dalton and Lazenby are at the bottom as much due to the number of films they did as the quality of the output)

Moore can only be at the top of anyone's list due to the era that they were brought up in surely?!

Much about Moore's era of Bond was frankly the pits.

Much of every generation of Bond is awful.

I'm 24 and grew up to Brosnan, not a chance he is getting near to the top

You're 24 and see Moore as the definitive Bond??

That's nuts !!

How so?

The joy of these sorts of things is that everyone has their own opinions on who they believe to be better. At the end of the day there is no right or wrong answer, to this day my dad still thinks George Lazenby was a good Bond and 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service' is one of his favourite Bond movies. its all about personal preference.

When I say definitive Bond - I'm not basing it on the overall quality of the films they were in, its more about how they portrayed the character. I preferred Bond to be slightly more comedic and less physical (thus Moore over Connery), I understand that this does not correspond with how the character was written by Fleming, but like I said its personal preference.

That's why I struggled adjusting to the Daniel Craig blockbuster, special effects, Bourne style movies - however loved Skyfall.

The moments I remember most (and most fondly) in Bond movies are not the explosions or action sequences but the quirky moments that intercede these scenes, or are a part of these sequences.

Living daylights is terrible.

License to kill one of the best though.

Living Daylights is nowhere near as terrible as most of Moore's films. Plus, if Living Daylights is not the best Bond film, it's got nothing to do with Dalton's ability to play the role.

Dalton is a great actor, the best actor to play the role of Bond, and his portrayal of Bond is the closest that's been done to Fleming's Bond. Which is important to me.

Can't argue with any of that Mr tent.

Living daylights is still terrible though.

I actually think that Craig is now my favourite bond. He'll be harder to replace than pierce was.

Genuinely think Worthington would be up there with the best if it happened.

Yeah worthington is one of the stronger options. For some reasons I've always thought James McAvoy would be good, but maybe he's not quite got the stature/size for the modern day bond.

Just had a quick look and Damien Lewis is the favourite... I think that would be terrible

I think Damian Lewis would be pretty good, but once again he's too old. As will be Worthington if Craig has another film left in him after Spectre. Reckon it's more likely to be somebody not necasserily on the radar right now. Most of the options being thrown around are actors who'd make great Bonds RIGHT NOW, not in another 6+ years time Edited by FloorFiller

Elba can play the role older than many white guys could.

Saw Neville Staple a couple of years back. Hot festival gig and he ended up shirtless by halfway through is set. He was in his 60s but was shredded to fuck. Six pack abs like the basalt columns in the Giant's Causeway. More energy than BP.

But the rest of the Specials? They all look like Jeremy Corbin emerging from a lengthy smack habit.
