Chiefski
To continue with the stupid booking, they could have easily opened up things better by having Lesnar return at the rumble, rather than last night. I like the PPV mostly overall, it's just the results were so obvious as soon as the match listings were known, Rumbles (and the related main title match) should be kept open, otherwise it takes away the 'anyone can win' factor. A-Rob
so now with Lesnar, Jericho, The Rock, Undertaker, Triple H......it looks like half of the WM card is going to be filled with part timers. While up and coming starts such as Barrett and Cesaro will feautre in the pre show or non at all. Not the best way to create new stars. Uncle Liam
People complain all year when Punk isn't the main event, then they complain when he is.... Previous matches to headline the RR PPV other than the rumble since the dark days; Shawn Michaels over Sid in 10 minutes Shawn Michaels over the Undertaker in 10 minutes Kurt Angle over Mark Henry - no reason, other than to bring back Undertaker as the show closer. Compared to those, Punk-Rock was a 5*. And when Mark Henry faced Kurt Angle, John Cena and Edge went on after the RR as well. And Bret v Taker in

And Bret v Taker in 96 Anyone knows what was the story behind Bret vs Taker main eventing in 1996? Because I did not rember a intense feud or hype between these two and It must have been special because it was the first time that at RR ppv, the rumble itself was not the main event. The Nal
Anyone knows what was the story behind Bret vs Taker main eventing in 1996? Because I did not rember a intense feud or hype between these two and It must have been special because it was the first time that at RR ppv, the rumble itself was not the main event. There was no big feud. Around that time there was 5-6 main eventers - Taker, Bret, HBK, Diesel, Backlund, Davey Boy and feuds only lasted for a week sometimes. The Taker/Bret match was really only just there to setup the Mania match between Taker and Diesel and to give Bret a boost by beating Taker before he dropped the belt to HBK at Wrestlemania after HBK won the rumble the same night. I think.
When Jokers Attack
Was it not the first time Taker and Bret ever faced? Can't recall off the top my head them going at it prior to that. Glad Lesnar is back!
A-Rob
Yes I think that was first time they met. If I recall correctly they only met twice on ppv at RR 96 and Summerslam 97, imo the 97 encounter was much better and had more heat in it, as Bret was the top heel at that time in fact when he won the fans started throwing cups and other objects to the ring

Glad Lesnar is back! Yep me too! Yeah think it was their first big match anyway. Presume they fought a few dark matches. Heres one from 1992. Just seen that this is to be released on a Bret Hart "Unreleased Matches DVD" in March. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ChEdSymhFr8 Edited January 29, 2013 by The Nal

JamesT977
I had no idea this thread existed! Anyway pretty disappointed by the outcome of the Royal Rumble and partially happy about the outcome of The Rock vs CM Punk. I like both of them but my inner child still enjoys seeing The Rock but from the looks of things i don't want to see The Rock vs John Cena at Wrestlemania again. Raw on the other hand Lesnar coming back was a good surprise. Hoping that Taker will be back within the month to start Wrestlemania build up. lharris92
thing was lesnar return was slightly ruined as wwe tweeted about it a few minutes before the music hit. should have just let the music hit. they really need to work on the shield working with brock and maybe punk as well. would be quite fun
The Nal
It's just a storyline injury. Seems so. Thought it was real as I was avoiding spoilers until now. He looked genuinely uncomfortable though. Not a normal sell at all.

lharris92
potential rumours and spoiler for wm regarding the taker. read if though wishes it. basically earlier a rumour appeared that the taker was undecided about wm however this has appeared since: Undertaker vs Punk UPDATE. Earlier today a story came out about The Undertaker being undecided at this moment about working WrestleMania this year. Several people close to The Undertaker have said that they have been given a different version of that story. It's being said that the hold up here is the result of the match. When Taker said he wanted to work with Punk at WM he told WWE officials he wants The Streak to end and to retire, and Punk is his personal choice to pull it off. Higher up officials in WWE have been trying to convince Taker to pull back on that, as they are against the idea of Punk ending it. As of now the two sides have yet to reach an agreement, and both seem to remain very stern in their views. crazy shit
