Swamp

As in Swamp Rock, a musical style. An example might be John Fogerty originally with Creedance Clearwater Revival. This is his cracking Glasto set from 2007. (Even Michael is enjoying it at 1.30).

Fogerty wrote many songs made more famous by others including Proud Mary (Tina Turner) and Rockin All Over the World, a song associated in the UK with Status Quo.

Partridge

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rxh0XOiYsOM

This is Don Partridge self-styled 'King of the Buskers' who was also sometimes known as Don 'Snakehips' Partridge.

He died in 2010 aged 68 and was busking almost to the end. Possibly his biggest moment, apart from two top ten hits, was when he put on a concert of buskers at the Royal Albert Hall. Performers included fellow busker Dave Brock (later of Hawkwind).

He was quite a good blues guitarist and I saw him a good few times at the Troubadour Folk Club in Bristol when other regulars included Al Stewart.

Thanks to my Dominican friend way back when, for introducing me to Stanley Clarke amongst other things when I was stuck in a rock groove & opened my eyes & ears to a wider world.

Family

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vMTb7vUawr0

I tried to find a decent live performance but the sound quality was poor so settled for this. Roger Chapman has one of the most distinctive voices of his day and they really were something different back in 69. Family Entertainment still stands as a great album.

They did try classical a few years ago. I think it was the LSO and they were very good. Agreed it's a good start to the day - though not so sure about Stravinski.

Have a very large soft spot for Family. And also for the next artist Z-Star or Zee Gachette or Slow Train Soul, extremely large in fact. Foo king Brilliant live, great voice gush gush.

Tree

PS the live stuff on Youtube don't do justice, but guess that's across the board so only worthy of a PS.

This is the magnificent Grace Slick - the breathtaking voice from Jefferson Airplane - from a solo album 'Dreams' she released after Airplane broke up. The whole album is worth a listen, especially El Diablo.

Manners

Buster Bloodvessels and Bad Manners. (I think he's seriously ill at present)

The Alabama 3 are tremendous. Seen them several times both in their full band and acoustic tours. Well worth catching.

All wrong, I'll be back, was stuck on manners! Still I'll post the artist that was here but a different track. Like the orchestration & akin to Wilco refused to give it up. RIP Alain Bashung.

Struggled to link to badly, so as anything can be done badly I'll select Travelling just because I want to show off Bjorn Berge excellent blues slide playing. And I want to know why some of these people don't get to play Glastonbury!

Doh, I had a lovely link worked out from Travelling to Wilbury, but decided I'd been there already. So thought instead I'd go for Caravan - as in Caravanserai by Santana. Was going to post All The Love in the Universe from that album. But then thought you're into quiet laid back guitar so moved on to the old favourite Santana track of Samba Pa Ti. So gentle that M&S used it one Christmas for their food adverts.

Anyway the link word is

Caravan

Though the track is a live performance by the master of Samba Pa Ti.

What I love is that the gaps between the notes are every bit as important at the notes themselves.

Have to get to Montreux one time before the clock stops, so much quality there over the years.

Home, so may tracks with that in the title.

Love the way this track turns at Blew my Mind.

And if this doesn't bring a tear to peoples eyes then .................. What turned out to be GSH's swansong, great album imho.

Night

Sticking in with the sons of Feelgood. I really think Wilko should be offered an honourary slot at Glasto - if he's still around and able to manage it

There's a very powerful interview with him talking about his cancer.

Love to see him there if he gets that far. Let's have a bit more fun.

Day

From Pepe Deluxe latest album, good but better (imho) is the previous album, Spare Time Machine.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/music/reviews/rzn8

Reminiscent of Beck, King Crimson, Pink Floyd, the Avalanches and the adventurous hip hop beat cutters of the late 90s, this album is totally sample free, yet moves with breathless orchestration through a panoply of sonic shakes, rhythm breaks and fascinating vibraphone and Theramin jams.

And from the same album as the Night & Day Track comes this. Recorded from the vibrations of a most impressive natuaral source. (They waited several years for it to be renovated before being able to complete the album)

Well Whisty you're broadening my musical and geographical knowledge. Great vids as well as music.

So how to follow on from Day? Green would be the obvious one or In The Life.

But this is an excuse to post one of my memorable Glasto moments. Ray Davies and the Choral Kinks performance in 2010 with the Crouch End Choir.

so the connecting word is Ray
