Elton John with his version of Goodbye Norma Jean adapted for Princess Diana's Funeral.

So let's go with Diana. Should have plenty of follow on possibilities.

Going to jump in with Harry and know I mentioned this album/film before, but the soundtrack and movie are wonderful for me. From the Movie The Hotspot, John Lee Hooker (who I was real lucky to see in the 80s) featuring Miles Davis.

No live Vid, just music.

Well that's a link on a plate Whisty. As your track was Harry and Dolly here's a look at two of the shapes to come this Glastonbury.

Dolly

Nice quote in this. "My songs are like my children. I expect them to support me when I'm old."

Was going for something from Roger Taylor's Fun in Space album. Even considered Hawkwind's Space Ritual.

But you can go into space in a Starship so this is Jefferson Airplane in their later incarnation as Jefferson Starship with Cathy Richardson doing a pretty good job at the Grace Slick vocal.

The opposite of Good has to be Bad

So John Fogerty (ex Creedence Clearwater Revival and a great songwriter) doing Bad Moon Rising.

For those who missed an outstanding show this is John Fogerty in full at Glasto in 2007, with Michael Eavis down at the front of the crowd clearly enjoying it.

If it's bad, it's to the BONE. I could swear that Elmer Fudd did a cover, but maybe that was Robin Williams doing an impression?

GEORGE THOROGOOD "Bad To The Bone":

Love George Thorogood and The Destroyers. Caught them a couple of times live.

So time for a bit of cheese. Bone leads to Boney M

I saw them in the unlikely setting of a folk festival a couple of years ago. One of the main bands had to pull out at the last minute because of a family bereavement and they were a short notice replacement. But they actually went down a storm. Good quality vocals and a fun sing-along for everyone.

This is in a cabaret setting but you can't win em all.

Get in quick, Ulrich Schnauss - A Letter from home, from the album A Strangely Isolated Place of which he says "I gained confidence after people began to discover Far Away Trains Passing By, and it hasn't really stopped since then. This time I decided not to compromise on what I wanted to do, with what I thought people might want me to do".

Seeing him prob one of my highs from last years fest, only caught a bit of his set, wished I'd gone a bit earlier or stayed up late (too old) for his other set or something else was happening. For the record I find watching DJ's boring but just sat on the floor in the tent, Sunday morning, dreaming away, great stuff. Really hope he's back again this year.

And the track I went to hear which wasn't played. Almost everybody who hears this when I play it asks "who's that". Was the 1st track on my 2013 Glastonbury bands mix disc for the drive down and kind of finds a way on to a few of my mix discs. Maybe not to your taste but have a Glastonbury fag Mr Hack (or anybody who fancies one), put the album on in your shed and while away 40 mins or so :)

Ulrich Schnauss was completely off my radar, so thank you for that introduction Whisty. Good with or without a Glastonbury cigarette.

A bit of deja vu here as I seem to remember posting Joe Cocker's version of The Letter but I don't want to repeat myself.

So let's follow The Letter of The Law

You get some classic songs performed in funny combinations and in a variety of ways. This is a song originally written by the Crickets in the Buddy Holly days and performed here by The Crickets plus Brian May at a Buddy Celebration. (Not that Mr May seems to contribute a lot on this track).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZ359Y4K6Kk

It then got speeded up a bit by The Bobby Fuller Four and finally punked up by the likes of Joe Strummer and in this version by The Clash

Nice trilogy of that tune. Law gives me this opportunity.

Mothers just because I want to link to Giora Fiedman who I discovered simply by finding an album called The Singing Clarinet an instrument I love to hear. For me Giora makes the Clarinet do special things, a living treasure. Can't find live the track The Mothers in Law so I'll draw on this instead for a flavour of what he can do and at such an age now & only a rehearsal! I guess it helps if you like Kletzmer but goosebumps abound for me with this one.

My mother in law's theme on my phone is enter the DRAGON. I haven't looked for a Soup Dragon song from Oliver Postgate, but have gone for Bagpuss instead.

From Dragon to Fire

For some reason Brian Auger wouldn't give permission for his original version of 'Wheels on Fire' to be used for Ab Fab, so it was re-recorded by Julie Driscoll with Ade Edmundson doing the backing.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6aJrPbeBfg

Ade (who is Mr Jennifer Saunders) now runs a great band that's well worth catching - The Bad Shepherds. They do folk versions of punk songs (including I fought the law) and punk versions of folk songs.

Ok ok Whisty *hang my head in shame*, I'm just like Tom Hanks in Big sometimes.

I misread Giora's name and thought it was Gloria Estefan, even more outrage to come, then, oops.

Another prodigy was MOZART.

^^ Nice, i like a genre mashed up.

So From Mozarts House to Let's Play or Baby (take your pick) House from a Band or person whose name always elicits a smile, I bring you Mungo Jerry with a guitar that's impossible to miss, even with that haircut.

A fine Welsh Band that immediately spring to mind using Badfinger as an example. have a track, All at Sea (link word), can't find live so this great track instead. I'm a forever fan of Budgie.

Who needs Metallica, mind you after listening to this track a couple times might even be tempted. Then again after a few youtube samples, maybe one track and move on :)

I love this thread picking some of my favourite bands and memories. Budgie, a great name to remember.

So from Sea to Sail

This is Sandy Denny, who had one one the finest voices in music. Most people associate her with Fairport Convention but she also collaborated with The Strawbs and recorded this album (I think) in Sweden. I've still got it somewhere in my vinyl collection.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=shlRX7zFP64

If you ever go for just one Fairport album it has to be "What we did on our holidays" which has Sandy on Meet on The Ledge.

Sadly there was very little video footage on live performances by Sandy but just enjoy her voice.
