A double connection here.

From lights we go to City with The Animals.

This footage from 1966 features the late Chas Chandler on bass. Chas ended up as the manager of both Jimi Hendrix and Slade. It's said that he sold all his bass guitars and equipment to help pay for Hendrix to get established in the UK.

As for Slade. One of the best live bands of their time by a country mile.

Not only good stomping rock but they also produced some great melodic sing along stuff.

Never really got TGD, I know a place where the fanatics share so many of their live shows. I'll try again with some attention, must watch that Woodstock DVD!

Was going to go for Led Zepp and The Train Kept A Rollin but thought that the gentler approach of Simon and Garfunkel might fit better.

From their excellent Central Park Concert which really showed how much Art added to Simon's songs.

So the link word is where the train will take you Home

Reading last year and Green Day with a bit of sing along.

Great not to have a flag in sight - just a few sweaty necks.

Bastille to Balls of Fire (go with either word)

In France Bastille Day is a day of fireworks and celebration - a bit like our November 5th Bonfire Night.

In the UK Bonfire Night is probably the busiest night of the year for the fire brigades.

Only the French could do this. The night before Bastille Day there is a tradition to have Firemen's Balls. These are dances, discos and other musical events staged at local fire stations. So, the night before what will probably be their busiest day of the year, France's fire fighters are all busy dancing drinking and having a good time.

Anyway here's Jerry Lee having a Great Ball of Fire with friends including Brian May.

And, sorry, a very old joke.

"Would you like a ticket for the Firemen's Ball?"

"I don't dance."

"It's not a dance - it's a raffle."

From Love let's go to Lee.

I think I've posted this before but the late Arthur Lee and Love and a superb set at Glasto.

And just to show they could be melodic too.

Fiona Apple fits in nicely with Brian Cox too.

From Dream let's got to Baby with Roy Orbison and a stellar group of friends including Bruce, Elvis Costello and k.d.Lang in their Black and White Night Concert.

From Electric to Prunes (A bit more of a challenging link word but it should get you going.

The Electric Prunes were one of the first US West Coast bands that I first saw at Bath Pavillion in 1967. The start of a love affair with psychodelia.

On Canned Heat, sadly Walter Trout, one of the original members and a storming blues guitarist is sadly seriously ill with liver disease.

Sad to hear about Walter Trout. I used to hear his name on a blues show frequently with tours and never made time to see him. Shows how much I have to learn on music and bands.

Nick Cave saw the Virgin Prunes' performance at a festival and wrote about it in the book Judas Jesus by Rolf Vasellari

So from Prunes to Jesus, via a stompin' long song from Nick and his Bad Seeds, although it could easily have been 15 feet of pure white snow.
