Paul Rodgers seems top of everyone's substitute list including Queen. I must admit I wouldn't mind being a bit more unreachably rural from time to time. I suppose I am when I go to a festival.

To link from Woman we'll have a link of Cry and bit of classic Bob

The link word is Dynamite. To explain; we've had Good and Molly so I was torn between Golly and Miss. I settled on Miss and Brenda Lee was known as Little Miss Dynamite. So over to you......

Faces can be small. Songs about Fruit can also be small, as in this Al Stewart example.

Al Stewart was one of those folkies who could play an intimate club gig or a big auditorium (I've seen him in both). A really imaginative song writer who also played the first Glastonbury Festival.

He now lives in the US and, between touring makes a good living out of advising rich Americans on how to stock their wine cellars.

Really an excuse to post one of my favourite Al Stewart songs - Year of The Cat. Lovely piano intro and great sax solo.

Given some of the tenuous links recently, gonna take advantage to show Son of Dave who's listed as playing in the Rocket Lounge this year. Caught him some years back and never forgot.

So I was in the Audience for one of his shows, let's have Devil.

One for luck

You beat me to it by two minutes Whisty. I had a response to Audience. So now instead a response to Devil.

The word is Crossroads from the film and based on the legend of blues guitarist selling his soul to the Devil in exchange for the ability to be a great guitarist.

This is the final guitar duel (featuring Steve Vai) where by winning the battle the young lad wins back the old man's soul.

On the subject of smoking on stage I remember seeing Paul Kantner of Jefferson Starship (nee Airplane) a couple of years ago chain smoke through the whole of his set. He held the plectrum of his guitar between thumb and forefinger and in the same hand held his fag between third and little finger.

I remember seeing Peter, Paul and Mary at a re-union concert a good few years ago and someone described Mary's movements as though she had a small ferret stuck down her dress.

Anyway, The Small Faces to the rescue again with Itchycoo Park, a song about their local park where they used to go to score drugs as teenagers.

Back to P,P&M for a moment I've been trawling through looking for a peformance to illustrate my first comment but with no luck. But it's made me quite wistful for them as they were part of the soundtrack of my generation. (And I used to have the hots for Mary). So here's a taste.

One of the best accounts of life in a parallel universe was the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams..

Originally a radio play, then a book, a TV series and even a film.

The radio play theme music 'Journey of the Sorcerer' was recorded by The Eagles.

If you've never encountered it you'll find it all on You Tube. The BBC original is better than the film. To give you a taste, here's episode one. The theme comes in after about 2 mins.

And the link word is Hitch.

Remeber stumbling on that radio show while turning the dial in my car looking for something to listen to back in the day when smoking was allowed in cars :). Confused the hell out of me for a bit then got completely hooked. Prob the only radio show series I've ever listened to to this day.

Rider

In memory of my Pater who loved this band.

Gosh takes me back. This is Mitch Ryder and The Detroit Wheels

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TrOvQ9JAf3g

Great fast-paced rock from 1967. Mitch Ryder was cited as an influence on many including Springsteen who sometimes still does a Detroit medley of Ryders' hits.

So the link word is Wheels.
