brandycoke
From horse to shoe, and Blondie with China Shoes from 2011. No decent live version i'm afraid, so the studio one it is.
whisty
John Otway post made me remember this tune I so loved back in the day which used to make me jump round like an idiot. I found a pic of Flower Shoes on google so get in. No Wild Willie but bit more energy than the ones I found with him in. Loving the guitar. And his self confession in another vid of the 7th best lyrics of all time. Edited October 22, 2014 by whisty
grumpyhack
The Move and Flowers in the Rain. The first record to be played on Radio One by Tony Blackburn when it was launched in 1967. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHY-oNPkVD8 In a promotional stunt, for the record—typical of the band's manager Tony Secunda—a postcard was released with a cartoon of a naked Harold Wilson, linking him to his secretary Marcia Williams. Wilson sued, and the High Court ordered that all royalties from the song were donated to a charity of Wilson's choice. This legal arrangement remains in force to this day and is thought to have cost the group millions of pounds in royalties over the years. During the single's chart success, most of the money went to the Spastics Society andStoke Mandeville Hospital. In the 1990s, The Observer newspaper reported the royalties had exceeded £200,000 and found that The Harold Wilson Charitable Trust had extended the range of beneficiaries to include, among others, the Oxford Operatic Society, Bolton Lads Club and the Jewish National Fund for Israel. grumpyhack
A nice bit of bow work here from ageing Prog Rockers Curved Air. So the link word is Vivaldi https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wv_6_Hri8gg I first saw Curved Air in about 1967 when they just about blew the roof off the Colston Hall in Bristol. I very much had the hots for Sonja Kristina in those days. This is her in more recent days but still a great voice. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eop1pP7wDrE By the way smoking isn't permitted in our house. Mrs GH hates it, so I have to smoke in my 'posh shed' where I have my computer. The frequiency with which I'm on here just shows I'm smoking rather a lot at the moment. grumpyhack
I love the Bonzos Neil. Nintendo has a whole series of games on the Legends of Zelda so let's go with Legend I'm afraid this is another one of Grumpy's Gonners. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wGICPpr2pXA Dave Dee went on after DDBM&T to be an A&R man for WEA records where he was in part responsible for the signing of AC/DC, Boney M and Gary Numan. Sadly he died of prostate cancer in 2009 by which time he'd founded a charity for disadvantaged children and had become a JP.

grumpyhack
From Metal to Heavy Sorry to go a bit whistful about this but I was adopted when I was a few months old and grew up as an only one with my adopted parents. When I married Mrs GH, who was a social worker, she asked if I had ever considered tracing my birth family. My answer was that I wasn't interested and it rested there. Until one night at home when I was fairly relaxed as we'd had two old friends round for a meal as they were leaving our village and moving away. The phone rang and the voice on the other end introduced himself to me as my brother. It turned out my birth mum and dad had stayed together after my adoption and had gone on to have five more kids. So I had two brothers and three sisters. The guy calling, my younger brother, explained that after years of trying he'd finally managed to track me down and we arranged a meet. For the rest of the evening I sat pretty gobsmacked unable to say much other than mutter, well bugger me! And I put this song on. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jl5vi9ir49g

grumpyhack
Rock Around The Clock Another of Grumpy's Gonners (Bill Hailey died in 1981). This was really before my time but looking at it now it's hard to believe that this lot sparked riots and kids ripping up cinema seats in their excitement. But it was the start of a whole new 'yoof culture'. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZgdufzXvjqw

grumpyhack
Time Has Come Today The Chambers Brothers first had a hit with this in 1968 when it was quite a ground-breaking mix of soul, funk, rock and psychedelia and around 11 minutes long. They started as a gospel/soul band and even played the Newport Folk Festival with the blessing of Pete Seeger before going 'electric'. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_I4S61Do-Qs
whisty
Going to check out some Chambers Bros. Something a little different - Liron Meshulam aka (Flora) From her Album Happy Today And just because her name reminded me of one of my fav vid finds. Maybe somebody will enjoy this Klezmer led genre hop as much as I do. Edited October 25, 2014 by whisty
grumpyhack
Happy Together The Turtles Then https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vVh--2FwKno And now - still on tour. I think this was Coachella https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_oJQ8LVQIE0 As so often with bands, there was a dispute which prevented them using the Turtles name for a while so the key players, Flo and Eddie, did a spell with the Mothers of Invention before finally being allowed the use of the Turtles name again.
