whisty
From the Album Seventeen Seconds, the Cure playing A Forest a lot faster than it's usually played. Always like to hear this track. Edited January 16, 2015 by whisty
grumpyhack
Minutes, hours, seconds - let's go for the YEAR of the Cat. There are many versions of this Al Stewart classic. Poor old Al must get pretty fed up trying to do something different with the song that everyone expects every time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AazEMt0eoFg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2mZcqKQzMxc

grumpyhack
Cue another of Grumpy's Gonners. Scott McKenzie died in 2012. A bit of a one hit wonder but with a song that in its time was a great anthem. You can play gonner spotting in this video produced to promote the 67 Montery Pop Festival: Brian, Janis, Jimi and probably quite a few more. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bch1_Ep5M1s So the link is FLOWERS Edited January 16, 2015 by grumpyhack

grumpyhack
Cue yet another Grumpy Gonner. This was a performance I missed at Glasto. His appearance in 2011 was his second as he also performed in 71. WINDMILLS of My Mind https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xlWHXOxcouo Noel Harrison, son of Rex Harrison, died 2013. He also competed as a skier for Britain in the 1952 and 56 Winter Olympics. The song was an Oscar winner as the theme from the Thomas Crown Affair. grumpyhack
As you and I share a love of Sandy Denny Oneeye, here's another of her early recordings with The Strawbs before her Fairport time. Sorry no video of the performance but still that voice. This song was written by Dave Cousins of The Strawbs. And you Sail Away To The SEA. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=shlRX7zFP64

whisty
Inevitable, maybe I posted this ages ago, not sure. A great show From the Basment, usually the Scissor Sisters i'd probably turn off (being a music snob) but the backing singer, Chrissi Poland, towards the end just gives me goose bumps everytime And of course you could end up on Higher Ground. Great cover with superb drummers and the same singer Edited January 19, 2015 by whisty
grumpyhack
If you follow to an inevitable conclusion you get to The END. Sorry more of Grumpy's Gonners. We went up to Jim Morrison's grave at the Pere Lachaise Cemetery in Paris a few years ago and were amazed to see what a shrine it had become. Flowers and memorial tributes all over it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FMGYycBAMU (Sorry this is such a long track).

whisty
New Well I see they're playing Bonnaroo, would love to see them on West Holts but probably better off buying a lottery ticket and thinking I'll win! And just for fun, here they are with John Scofield. Edited January 20, 2015 by whisty

grumpyhack
Ancient and Modern sounds like a hymnal. So White Winter Hymnal from Glasto 2009. (pick either word). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Te-eC277lvk On my longer teacher training courses I take a class photo and every learner chooses their favourite song. I then put together a compilation CD and everyone gets a copy as a memento. Just dished out the CDs today for one of my courses and this track was the choice of one of the group. grumpyhack
Put the last two together and we get a Black and White NIGHT.
