Jack JOHNSON

Maybe new to some people here. A former professional surfer who still lives in Hawaii and does some nice laid back stuff. Nice life if you can get it.

Born to Run

Love that video. Springsteen and the E Street Band (including the late Clarence) on top form. Obviously a compilation from several shows as they change clothes from shot to shot, but superbly put together.

You get a lot of runs in cricket. I always get a bounce from the Test Match Special theme. Here's Booker T having a rehearsal of Soul LIMBO

And the refined version used on the radio.

Saw them in Cardiff last year with The Animals. An excellent night.

A place where you might meet The DEVIL

The great guitar duel from Crossroads (another favourite film) based on the legend of Robert Johnson selling his soul to the Devil in exchange for his musical gift. The excellent Steve Vai as the Devil's man in the final battle for the young guitarist's soul.

The great thing about memorable performances is that they stay in your head and, despite some of these now being among Grumpy's Gonners, they are Forever YOUNG

Sadly I can't see any of the survivors making Glasto any more than the Foos having their runway.

You go from young to old and then you're GONE

Lonnie Donegan wasn't all cheese. He introduced a lot of people in the UK to jazz and blues and was cited by many as hugely influential in their careers. After his death Mark Knopfler wrote and performed this tribute.

Burton as in Gone for a Burton which that phrase has almost done to itself. Funny I sometimes use these phrases and my kids say what the hell does that mean! If you're curious you can get as confused as me finding out where that phrase originated from :)

The need arises (sadly more often with age) to go not for a Burton but for a NELSON or JIMMY

I always associate the brand Burtons with Wagon Wheels and Jammie Dodgers but I suspect they were brands made under licence.

Spot the oldies and Gonners in this line up.

Willie and the POOR Boys - one of the assortments put together by Bill Wyman in his post Stones period.

I actually preferred his later group Bill Wyman's Rhythm Kings.

This is a great line up of guys doing it for love and fun not money and Beverley Skeete is a superb singer

Going For a Burton has a host of possible origins. One is a WWII phrase to go to get a demob suit from Montague Burtons menswear.

Poor hopefully leads to Recovery. Such a great tune delivered with powerful vocals from Sian Evans, rubbish ones live so the recorded version. Sian Evans did play last year but small acoustic set and clashed for me! Saw these a month ago and the Bass blew me away almost literally. I hope they make an appearance and If not I'll be seeing them again September assuming I don't turn into a Grumpy gonner by then :)

Live and cut down acoustic.Kind of sorry I missed it now.

MONEY

Ringo had a grump when he announced he would not be responding to any more e-mails. But he seems to be over it as he's touring again now with Todd Rundgren in his band.
