Jack of Diamonds is a hard card to play according to Bob. Link is diamond. I know Bob took on a hobo rep and nicked a load of his mates records to learn the music, but him and Alan Lomax, I love this early stuff. Having read Alan's book, The Land Where Blues Began though, they had a shit hard life.

Ringo was grumpy while spouting 'Peace and Love', what's that about??

Sixty Six

So many versions of this but seeing Ray Charles at the Cognac Blues Fest a few years ago still is one of my standout musical memories.

Beautiful day here in South Wales too Oneye. Preparing for a family party this evening. May even be able to overflow out into the garden under my festival gazebo.

And just in case you'd like some more - their tremendous Glastonbury 2007 set in full (with Zac Starkey on drums, showing his dad how to do it).

Happy memories for me Brandycoke - (not so much Emmanuelle but Focus). I had a Dutch girlfriend in the 70s and spent a lot of time in Amsterdam where I first encountered Focus. I've also seen them at a few UK music fests since.

Tommy Steele, often thought of Britain's first Rock 'n Roller and promoted as our answer to Elvis. Like Mr P, Mr S got diverted into films and also musicals. But not a gonner. Still alive and kicking at 78.

This is Tommy, performing his 1950 hit, aged 63 and incredibly well preserved.

BLACKBURN

DJ Tony Blackburn was actually a struggling cabaret singer at one stage (one of his bands was Tony Blackburn and The Rovers) and he recorded and released a single in 1965, when a Pirate Radio DJ with Radio Caroline (sorry no video).

He also did a version of You Don't Bring Me Flowers as a send up with John Peel. (Again sorry no video).
