Lithium05
I think it's safe to say this line-up wont be shifting many tickets. It's all been done before so many times, surely there needs to be room for something different. Personally I would like to see Weezer, Placebo, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Cypress Hill play their first Download, and the return of some of the bands that have played before, but not as often as the overbooked BFMV, Stone Sour etc. such as Less Than Jake, Sum 41, Jimmy Eat World, Ash, The Subways, Reel Big Fish, Arch Enemy and others that seem to be overlooked in favour of booking the same f*cking bands year in year out. I'm not trying to suggest these bands would sell more tickets than those currently announced, but it would be nice if the organisers didn't keep inviting the same bands back all the time, rather than changing it up a bit. devilman
Saturday is an absolute belter. Interesting what you say about the crowds Devilman. We are a bunch of creaky T vets heading south for the first time in a long time. Was a little worried about the apparent size of the Donni crowd as a whole. So you notice a difference? All those barriers they put up?

jump
Placebo haven't played Download. I should know, i've done every Download and i'm a masisve Placebo fan, seen them 10 times. I don't think Weezer have either but i'm not sure, not really a fan.
devilman
Did I mention I met Mikkey Dee from Motorhead in Munich last week? I told him in my best German that I was going to see them in Download and then he called me a c**t in English for not seeing them in Glasgow recently. The classic stuff never gets announced early though does it? Even Aerosmith was a Feb announcement or something like that.

Lithium05
As Jump said Weezer have played Download before and Lynyrd Skynyrd would be like booking Thin Lizzy again (basically a tribute act). eFestivals
Did I mention I met Mikkey Dee from Motorhead in Munich last week? who's he then? When I met Motorhead there was Lemmy and Eddie, but not Philthy Phil because he was at home recuperating from a broken neck. (yes, I have seen them recently-ish, and I know the personnel have changed over time). Edited December 13, 2012 by eFestivals
biffoire
Gotta say I totally disagree. I think the line up announced so far is the strongest in years. The three headliners are excellent particularly Rammstein and bands like Mastadon, Stone Sour and Volbeat are at the cutting edge of metal. Put with some strong bands like Motorhead, AIC and BFMB you have an exceptional line up. If you want to introduce some pop crap then let them go to Reading, Leeds or the V Festival. Long live Download the 'METAL' festival!!!

AcademicPistol
Having looked into it, Placebo and Weezer have NOT played before, and Thin Lizzy were possibly the best act the year they played, so if Skynyrd's "tribute" act can deliver even half the performance Thin Lizzy did, it would be good enough to warrant a spot on the line-up. A mate of mine caught them on their recent tour and claims they were excellent. Edited December 13, 2012 by AcademicPistol

GuitarManDan15
You classify these bands as 'pop crap' Less Than Jake, Sum 41, Jimmy Eat World, Ash, The Subways, Reel Big Fish, Arch Enemy, Weezer, Placebo, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Cypress Hill. You really must be a narrow minded annoying metal head who thinks if the singing is actually audible and you can hear bass then that equals 'pop crap'. Download has its roots on Monsters of ROCK! Yes it is predominantly a metal festival but there is room for every band listed there and they would be more than welcome additions. A bit of punk and rock are the only things that convince me to go. At the moment I think its a boring uninspired line up and I will not be attending for the first time in a few years Gotta say I totally disagree. jump
Yeah Weezer and Placebo have not played, I edited my post, serves me right for having misplaced trust in Jump (to be fair he is never normally wrong about these things) I would welcome some fresh faces at Download, I have always wondered why they don't go more in the direction of some of their European counterparts. I had a nap during Thin Lizzy, I like them and Skynyrd but I do really feel I am watching a tribute act, that being said bring them on! They haven't played before either. theramm
Mastodon's a cracking announcement for me. This year's line-up is taking shape to be a belter, the fact that all RIP & high end camping have all sold out early & John Probyn's already publicly said they're expecting another sell out proves they're doing something right. Lithium05
Ermmm.... no. Actually I like bands to sound individual and not that samey American Punk sound. I'm open to all types of music. I certainly wouldn't describe Arch Enemy as pop????!!!!! And at which point did I name any of these bands. Have your pimples burst yet cause your point of view is immature. All I'm saying is that we have enough mixed festivals like the V- Festival, T, Glastonbury and Reading. Why not keep this one as a roclk/metal festival. And in terms of Lynnyrd Skynnyrd and Thin Lizzy, much that they are classic rock and talented musicians, like so many of their members, it's time to let it die. The bands are just not the same anymore. It's like watching a karioke version. And in terms of Stone Sour, the House of Gold and Bones is fantastic(Nickelback my ass!!!). They are producing some of the best guitar riffs I've heard in years and believe I've heard a few seeing as I was at Monsters of Rock 1985!!! Deckard69
I'm not even sure where to begin to criticise this post. Largely because you seem set in your ways, so any argument would likely fall on deaf ears (presumably literally if you rate Stone Sour's latest efforts). Stone Sour are a painfully average band both musically and lyrically. They've not made much effort to appeal to people outside of Corey's established fan base (leading with heavy singles, only playing the "heavy" fests etc.) and without Corey's presence they would have a hard time pedalling their middle of the road, directionless hard rock. You effectively called Arch enemy pop. Download isn't a metal fest, and the bands I mentioned have as much right to be there as Slayer would. Well done in being at Monsters of Rock in 1985, not sure if that's what your fishing for, but I was born that year and would appear to have a better grasp of what's going on in the present day without having to throw around holier than thou statements like your "pimple popping", which considering the bands I mentioned have pretty much all been around since the late 90s, meaning the fans are more than likely in their late 20's, is pretty wide of the target. And yeah, if it weren't for Corey's "credibility" I don't think anyone would have an issue lumping Stone Sour in with the likes of Nickelback, Hinder, Theory of a Deadman etc. it's the same music, with the occasional hint of Slipknot to placate the established fan base. As I said Thin Lizzy were, for me, band of the weekend last year, so why should they stop booking acts like this?! In short, yours is the sort of attitude that is what's wrong with a cross section of Download goers when they get in their "\m/ METULZ\m/" mindset.
