Lowlands 2013 (Netherlands)

One of my favourite festivals, so here's the laydown just in case some people are interested.

Fact sheet:

August 16-18, 2013. Biddinghuizen, Netherlands.

Prices:

Weekend ticket with camping: 185 euro in 2012. Likely not to change in 2013, festivals were under an increased VAT rate during 2012. Camping opens Thursday (officially at 6pm but usually earlier in the afternoon), has to be fully cleared Monday morning at noon.

Food/drinks: Lowlands has their own payment coins which were 2,60 euro each in 2012. One coin for half a pint of beer or soda. Food varies from 1 coin for the most simple items up to 4 coins for a full meal. Plenty of vegetarian options available, fewer but some vegan and gluten-free options as well.

Lineup:

No names announced for 2013. Usually only a moderate amount of real headliners, Lowlands focuses on the more alternative and lesser known fresh acts. Few or even no names expected when sale of ticket starts in February. Note: Lowlands has sold out in just a few hours for the past years, with only a moderate amount of tickets held back to annoy scalpers.

Atmosphere:

Pretty relaxed, especially compared to stories I hear back from English festivals. The past years the far majority of visitors has been Dutch, due to the quick ticket sales.

Weather:

Usually ok with a moderate amount of sun and few showers, but Dutch weather can be tricky. Rain is always possible yet last year had an unprecedented heatwave.

Transportation:

Direct trains from Amsterdam to Lelystad Centrum, takes about one hour. From Lelystad free shuttle buses take visitors to the festival site which is in a remote location, don't expect to be able to make any purchases at nearby venues.

Local laws and customs:

Under Dutch law, possesion of up to 5g of marijuana or the equivalent of hashes is tolerated. However, it is unsure whether foreigners will still be able to purchase any legally in 2013 due to stricter coffeeshop laws which enforce a membership only open to Dutch citizens. Lowlands allows visitors to bring up to 8 liters of drinks with them to the camping grounds. Other than what one can poor into a plastic cup none of that is allowed on the festival grounds. Glass bottles are strictly forbidden, also on the camping grounds!

Anything else:

Ask me. ;)

Looks like im definitely heading to this next year. I've wanted to go for a few years now but other things jumped the queue, this summer IOW was a must because of Tom Petty, Pearl Jam and Springstein being the headliners.

I've been to Rock Werchter a few times, its a great, chilled out festival but the last time there were a lot more people from the UK which tended to make it a bit more loutish. Fingers crossed this doesnt happen with Lowlands!

Ticket sale starts Sat Feb 2nd, 11am CET (10am GMT) on lowlands.nl (and ticketmaster.nl) and those sites only, anything else is an overpriced risk.

Lowlands sold out in just a few hours the past years, so better not be late.

Tickets will be 185 euro including camping and free bus transfers from Lelystad train station.

No names announced yet.

Sorry I couldn't reply in time: I have notifications for subscribed threads turned on, but rarely or never get notices from the forum in my mailbox. Hopefully you managed to get tickets, it is indeed always a massive gamble with virtual queues and server overloads. For some reason the touts always seem to get through though.

Good evening!

I can't seem to forget about this great secondhand place on the festival site, does anybody know what the name of it was? It advertised 1kg for 15€ and had really descent stuff! I think it was usually located in Amsterdam- and if thats true I would like to visit it in January when Im there :-))
