russycarps
I watched the coldplay 2005 set in its entirety as I was with a girlfriend who was a big fan. She was reduced to tears of joy by the emotion of the lyrics to fix you. We split up that July.
russycarps
... that's a truly awful song, lyrically. I used to be able to enjoy some Coldplay... that song put the mockers on everything they've ever done now. tell me about it. Truth is though, I actually enjoyed a lot of that 2005 set! Midnight Man
I reckon Mumfords will smash it this year (worst song played on the Pyramid, that is)

I used to be able to enjoy some Coldplay... that song put the mockers on everything they've ever done now. They were very very good in 2011. That lyric even seemed acceptable at the time with 40000+ singing along to it. Only then though.
MEGABOWL
- Worst weather for a headliner ever. - Restless/youthful crowd. - Band "went off" too early & couldnt keep pace. - Underwhelming conclusion. Pretty much that. Bono was trying too hard as well. It just didn't 'happen' despite a pretty good setlist, they just didn't connect.
Verbal
You do all know that Fix You was written for Gwyneth as he wanted to be able to help when her dad died but couldnt really do a lot

I reckon in 5 years time people will be saying U2 were one of the best sets. I think the detail will get forgotten and people will look at the setlist and think it was better than it really was. I'm doing it myself, questioning whether or not I actually enjoyed it much more than my memory is telling me

I thought the link to the space station was cool too, it's hardly bonos fault people were too thick to even know what it was all about. If they'd just ended on 2 lively crackers though. New Years Day or the like

I remember becoming aware of how cold my feet were, standing in wellies in the mud - not an ideal state to enjoy live music in!
The Nal
If they'd just ended on 2 lively crackers though. New Years Day or the like Don't think it would've made a difference. The rain just sucked all the life out of the gig. Sure it looks dramatic now but standing in it for two hours is no fun.
CaledonianGonzo
I'll be honest - the overhead conditions didn't really affect my enjoyment (or lack thereof) in the slightest, mostly due to me having donned a climate-impervious beerjacket several hours beforehand. What took the wind out of U2's sails was that the post-ZOO TV part of the set couldn't hope to live up to the impact of what came before, not just in the quality of the songs but in visual onslaught. As soon as they stopped word-flashing us it just felt anticlimactic.
Ed209
Can't blame it all on the weather. Primal Scream were superb and most people there would agree with me. Their conditions were just a shitty - and while the crowd were probably a little flatter than they might have been, the Scream obviously did something right. 20 minute version of Higher than the Sun in the pissing rain and wind, and still keep everyone interested and up for it? Fair play to them

Wooderson
Yep. I'll agree with Nal on this one. You swap in "Discotheque" or "Hold Me Thrill Me" for "One" and the momentum keeps going.

It looks OK on the TV, and nostalgia and fading memories might put a fuzzy haze around it and dim the memories of how bad the weather was but I'd be surprised if many in that field ever think of it very fondly. The best bit was just past the half-way mark when the wind where I was changed direction so not only was I pissed wet through but I could only hear intermittently. That was pure f**king magic. MEGABOWL
oh shit, I forgot jerusalem did that really happen? Ohhhhhh yeah. I'm watching it back again now and he's made me cringe three times already - some 'trying too hard' waffle about 'a very special feeling', singing a bit of Beyonce and then Jerusalem. There's not much crowd reaction to the start of 'Where the Streets....' straight after and I think it's because everyone's just cringed themselves up a hernia. 'I will Follow''s very good, mind.
