Rolling Stones...

There's always a bit of handy fudging going on with shows these days. I do get a little surprised when I see some shows on a run all advertised as sell-outs with the odd one that doesn't get over the line.

Case in point, Springsteen in 2016. Every UK date bar Manchester was deemed a sell-out.

My parents went to one of those back in the early 1980s.

Ticket was £12.50 - high end for those days, probably less than the price of a meal with a drink in the stadium's concession stands now.

In June 1982 I saw Queen at the Milton Keynes bowl on the 5th, Simon & Garfunkel at Wembley Stadium two weeks later, and The Stones at Wembley a week after that. I was a schoolboy, paying for it via pocket money and my paper round.

Not sure the Stones would fill a north east stadium, there’s a reason why you mostly near certainty sell out acts up here. There just isn’t the catchment.

I need to stop posting on here on my phone, without wearing my glasses!

We're in a different kind of thing now.

I don't have a run quite like that, but anecdotally I saw Father John Misty, Patti Smith and Bruce Springsteen all in a row. Each one played Because The Night, which is definitely the first run of shows I've seen different artists do the same song.

That is a nifty one to have in the back pocket. Should have seen Cascada to complete the holy quartet.

No other shows outside of London in the UK? Got to assume it's Twickenham or Emirates Stadium again - Wembley is looking absolutely chocka next year.

23 concerts at Wembley this year following today's Guns N Roses announcement.

That inherently feels like way more than they used to get.

Yep think they used to be allowed about 13 now I don’t think they have a limit

Maybe there's room for the Stones to fit into the Wembley schedule after all.

Can bet Wembley's owners are happy too given the sheer amount of money they'd be raking in from this. Even moreso given they've finally paid off the debt for rebuilding it.

I saw them at the old Wembley Stadium in June 1999. Sheryl Crow supported. 30 quid for the ticket, pitch standing.

Went to both nights, got 2 tickets off a tout for £20 the pair after waiting until they started.

Said tout at first threatened to beat me up for making such an offer (plus he didn't like my hat), but he took the money once he realised they were already on.

Feels like that would've been a high-end ticket price for the time, no?

Think it was about £12 when my parents saw the Rolling Stones at Wembley at some point in the early 80s.

I’ve got into many an expensive gig doing that. Presumably touts outside gigs, dodging the rozzers, is a thing of the past now
