except of course it can't be true in this instance, because as things stand there cannot be any Hyde Park concerts next year.

It might be the case that a show has been pencilled in, but it cannot be anything more than that at this time. Until a contract is awarded to someone to run shows in Hyde Park no one can plan a show there with any certainty.

When are they lively to sort out the contracts for Hyde Park?

I'm not entirely sure, the Hyde Park people weren't particularly explicit with dates. They seemed to imply that it'll be sometime around the end of the year.

Perhaps hard rock calling isnt at hyde park next year.

Possibly, but within London the options are limited. I'm not sure that HRC or Wireless would work if they were in Hackney.

I'd like to see Hackney Marshes used for something again personally...I doubt it will but it would be awesome!

agreed and when we were there for radio one weekend there was talks of using it for 3 weekend gigs in a row.

I still can't see Hard Rock Calling working there tho. Hackney isn't the sort of place that a large part of its audience aspire to.

I doubt it, the council are not keen on it being used more than once a year apparently for large events.

it's got to be in the running, but my bet is that Royal Parks will change the tendering rules to try and get Live Nation back in the game.

I'd say what's going on is a game of chicken.

Will AEG live not get Hyde park?

Possible - tho does anyone know if they're actually bidding?

I think the problem for the Royal Parks is that without Live Nation as one of the companies tendering for the contract, they'll consider the tendering process to be flawed and won't give them a good return - especially now it's now known publicly that Live Nation aren't (currently) in the mix. It'll encourage anyone else that might be interested to submit very low speculative bids in the hope of picking up a bargain.

So my view stays where it is, that LN are playing a game of chicken with the Royal Parks, in the hope that the tendering process will get amended into something more to their liking. If it does get amended that'll benefit both Live Nation and Royal Parks.

Live Nation head honco John Probot has confirmed they have the grounds for the next 5 years and will be installing permanent alterations to the site like paths and other infrastructural plans.

If they're doing that then it would make sense to have more events being held there plus they could add camping to these events meaning extra revenue?

anything is possible, but I'd say that whatever Live Nation might be thinking for any specific events like those, there's still a need for a big outdoor London show site for the sorts of shows they put on.

While there are alternative London locations they definitely don't suit as well as Hyde Park - they're less well served with both parking and public transport options (including linking into the mainline train services out of London), as well as being less appealing places for the more genteel audiences that the big London events typically attract.
