whisty
The show made my otherwise dismal New Years eve a great one
eFestivals
Maybe The Fine Young Cannibals might make a comeback?from what the guy I know said who used to be in the band, it sounds unlikely.Gift has been an occasional singer with Jools and the band for a while, so I suspect his appearance on last night's show had more to do with that than anything else. ghandi
I thought it was a great show, thourougly enjoyed it, i thought that Bobby Womack was great with Damon Albarn, Pet Clark was great for her age especially " Downtown" , Enjoyed going back in time with them and Rolan Giff and Dexys. I thought that Jools would ruin it with it being all about him and his band but he didn't. Special shout out to Emeli Sande who i thought was superb. beau1
People actually like this version of Adam Ant? He was awful when I watched him on tv at bestival and he was just as bad yesterday. Dexy's weren't too bad but his voice was obviously shot but it was a decent rendition. Petula Clark was much better than both of them. The Hives were excellent. Steveod
One of the best Hootenany's in years.
abdoujaparov
Dexy's weren't too bad but his voice was obviously shot but it was a decent rendition. I didn't watch the TV last night, but his voice most assuredly is not "shot"...having seen Dexy's on their recent tour, his voice is a good as ever. He has certainly changed his singing style a little, as a result of voice coaching before the new album was recorded, but whatever impression you may have got from the TV, in the flesh (as it were) his voice is still stunning... beau1
Just sounded plain bad to me. He couldn't reach the higher notes, sounded like he couldn't keep up either even with a much slower version. Didn't notice a different style apart from not being very good. Even my parents thought it was dire and they were big fans of them back in the day. Mind you it wasn't as bad as Adam Ant.

Like I say, I didnt see it...he sings much more from the chest than he did 20 years ago and his voice is noticeably deeper as a result. Whatever you saw last night, your view that his voice is "shot" is plain wrong the version Dexy's have done of Eileen (if that's what they did last night) on the recent tour was sublime
abdoujaparov
I've always wondered how Kevin Rowland thought he was a singer at all..... ever you need new ears
abdoujaparov
... everyone who thinks he's a great singer does. Everytime I hear Dexy's version of Jackie Wilson Said, I think he sounds like he's gagging... all the way through the song he's got a great voice...one of the best white soul singers ever (although I prefer Van's version of Jackie Wilson). TheSeventhOne
The Hives would be brilliant on the Other Stage next year. Always superb fun.
abdoujaparov
I know he's very popular... it really confuses me. I truly can't stand his voice. that's a matter of personal taste...there's a big difference between him having a bad voice and you not liking it. I can understand you not liking it - he hs a particular vocal style (which he originally modelled on General Norman Johnson the lead singer in Chairmen of the Board) and I can understand why some people may not like it. If you dont, know amount of words from me on why I do will help you. It's a bit like Bjork - technically an utterly fantastic singer, with amazing range and real inventiveness. But some people dont like her...
abdoujaparov
well, he can just about hold a note... Stevie Winwood, Joe Cocker, John Lennon, Jeff Tweedy... those are 'great' (white) soul voices (to me). Kevin Rowland's voice sounds like a mixture of yodelling while trying to dislodge something stuck in his throat Bjork does have an amazing voice, I agree... can't see how her abilities can be compared to Kevin Rowland's though I wasn't comparing Rowland and Bjork...just trying to illustrate that great singers can have a style which not everyone enjoys. For what it's worth, in my opinion, Rowland is a massively better singer than 3 of the 4 you have listed but that's enough...you have your opinion. I have mine. We're not going to shift

whisty
For personal reasons I hate Come on Eileen and cringe every time it's played so don't ever want to see Rowland. However I saw him on JH earlier in the year with his new stuff and thought it quite good, suprised in fact. Would see him at the festival as long as he doesn't bring Eileen with him
Ruwise
I thought Roland Gift was sounding good. Adam Ant is not wearing well sadly!
Avalon_Fields
Ah i see you have bracketed the " along with Riassa" but........ got a bit worried there! , i hope they play Glasto again. The Mummers are seriously good, saw them at a small venue in Manchester, criminally under-rated I reckon...just checked their website, not been updated for ages so can't see them appearing. ghandi
I would love the Mummers to play Glasto again. Saw them in 2009 on a sunny sunday afternoon and they were amazing. Their follow up CD ' Mink Hollow Road" is amazing. I don't know , the last time they appeared Mark Horwood was with us, possibly they might not want to appear again without him, who knows but i thought they would have been at the festival in 2011 given a year off after his death. Now they are touring i hope they will.
James Bolivar
I thought Roland Gift was sounding good. Adam Ant is not wearing well sadly! Perhaps it was ironic, perhaps he was just getting into the spirit, but the sight of the pudgy, bespectacled, former, teen-idol dressed in some burlesque parody of his heyday finery left me feeling a little sad. Big Vern
Can only assume Adam Ant is tired from touring as I saw him in York last year and he really did deliver

LondonTom
Bobby Womack was pretty damn decent on it....and the HIVES were as great as when I saw them at Reading, they need to be at Glasto! Was pretty damn decent show from everyone all round on it really.
