Magic food what doesn't need cooking nor fridging....Festival Snacks.

It is the low mess option breakfast. I did think about porridge, but cleaning the pans is a nightmare, I imagine attempts at pancakes hunched over a tiny gas cooker will go the same way too.

I might go for the high-calorie cereals I'd normally deny myself:

They not longer do my favourites: marmalade granola or chocolate granola, but the new flavours sound delicious.

Just picking up on this older thread, I've been doing some research into cheaper alternatives to the rather costly Heatermeals and have come up with these:

Flameless ration heaters: £1.19p each

http://evaq8.co.uk/FLAMELESS-RATION-HEATER-Turns-A-Wet-Meal-Into-A-Self-Heating-Meal.html

Thesame company does them on eBay with free delivery for £2 each

Curries/dhals: a humber of supermarkets now sell premade, longlife curries/dhals/choles (all veggie) which range from £1.00-£1.50 on average

Tesco & Asda seem to stock the mopst varieties.

You can also use these pre-cooked rice pouches from the likes of uncle ben's, usually retailing (on permanent offer) around £1 each

I was initially sceptical about how good these were but so far tyhe Dhal shave ben very nice indeed, the chole/channas are a bit hit and miss, depending on how you like yours, the Aloo/Mattar Paneers are also very good. Especially at £1-1.50 each!

if you don't want to take rice and are taking a stove then prepacked chapattis/rotis flame grilled for about 30s a side are gorgeous instead (usually 8 in pack for about 90p)

Pastas

http://www.heinz.co.uk/ourfood/pasta/pasta-pouches/spicy-tomato--pepperoni-sauce-with-fusilli (can usually find this around 2 for £2-£2.50)

http://www.tesco.com/groceries/Product/Details/?id=273682586 (60p!!!)

Actually, pretty much anything in a microwaveable pouch is usable (make sure it's microwaveable though as some plastics are not suitable for heating), just don't open the pouch before you heat it up

So, this means you've got the basis for a heated Pasta or a Curry/Rice/Chapatti combo from £2.50 to £3.50

I like the idea of getting the milk every morning but knowing my luck I'll miss it or camp in a field that it doesn't deliver to..

Anyway, we usually take cereal bars, marshmallows, nuts, crisps, baby bells, cheese strings...

I might get some of those tuna salads in a tin, maybe some pitta breads or wraps and add toppings like peanut butter. Might take some oranges for some nutrition each morning. can't beat a nice cold glass of orange juice though... best find out where this milk float delivers to!

Tins of mackerel in tomato sauce. They keep perfectly whatever the temperature, and feel enough like proper food to allow you to skip a meal or two. I take ryvita too, and I can highly recommend properly air dried meat, having lived on jerky made from various animals camping in the desert last summer.

I usually take Pringles and ginger biscuits. Hangover cures.

I don't bother with other food as we took loads the first year we went and ended up not eating any of it as there were too many awesome food stalls there for us to waste meal times sitting eating cold spaghetti hoops out of a tin!

Must admit, was bloody horrified by the food prices in 2011. On average, £8 for a standard meal. And that strange festie thing where you're queuing for food whilst all around are dumped plates of the stuff you're about to spend £8 on..with a fag stubbed out in it. Still some cheapish food to be found on site but becoming increasingly rare. Also found myself quite cynical at all the organic this, that and the other advertised. Is it really? I know there're Inspectors and stuff but still...bit cynical meself..

I can recommend those cheap tortillas with Primula squeezy cheese and olive tapenade. Easy, quick, snacky, savoury munch. But then, I don't have a sweet tooth at all so have to get creative with the savouries. I love talking about food. More photos in the food thread please..
