thewayiam
Leeds or Reading? I was at Leeds and just remember them stopping for 10 minutes or so near the beginning of the set while they sorted the barrier out and helped anyone that was hurt. After that it was pretty much business as usual.

2rare2die
They've had barrier issues for a couple of bands, Foo Fighters in 05 I think and Blink the other year the crowd needed to be told to move back 2 paces half hour before they came on
mrtourette
I found that number of teenagers strutting down the front and then forcing their way out the mosh pit in tears at Foos in '02 amusing. Hit the deck a few times and lost a shoe there.

SOAD
I'm not making out they're tiny, I'm aware of all the festivals they've headlined, but you saying they're one of the biggest metal bands of all time is clear hyberbole and is a bit compromised by the fact that you're obviously a big fan. You aren't exactly coming from an objective angle. One big album and a couple of big tours doesn't put them anywhere near some of those bands. You've just given 11 acts that you think are in some or all circumstances bigger so I don't see you can say that they're 'one of' the biggest. What are they, one of the biggest 12? They may be 'up there', but what the hell does that mean exactly? It's just guff to make them sound more special than they are, it doesn't actually mean anything. They're a popular band who have headlined European festivals before but who burned their reformation/end of hiatus buzz at Download. There may be a demand to see them again due to rarity of shows but if they do headline it will be a weak(er) booking, they certainly aren't a grade A bona fide headliner like Muse, Foos, Blur, etc. That's it, there's nothing to all that 'one of the biggest metal bands in the world' crap. SOAD
I've only gone right to the front for a few main stage bands and they were the end of Prophets in 07 then NIN and Pumpkins... it was alright but the worst times I've had in Reading crowds were both at Reading 09... both Prodigy and Radiohead had loads of fighting... I was rather shocked with Radiohead but I had to break up a couple of fights bout 20 rows from the front... where as Prodigy fights seemed to be happening all over the place. PDAD
As much as i like them, i really cant see them headlining, especially if Biffy are as well. Biffy/Eminem/SOAD just seems a bit mediocre as headliners. On saying that, theyd be a fantastic booking for a sub. So i really dont know but am starting to think again that Sabbath/SOAD/Deftones may be a very likely top 3 on one of the days.
kev1664
Nope. That Metallica sub was the only uk gigs of the year. I remember, because someone threw a bottle at them, they got really arsey and commented on why they got that when they flew from the US especially for the gig. They still only subbed. Unless im badly mistaken, i don't think the year they headlined download sold out either. I could be wrong of course, but i don;t think there is enough of a demand for weekend or day ticket purposes for them to headline a UK festival. 2rare2die
Cant remember any fighting at either, must of been in a good part of the crowd. You get dicks everywhere though. I was watching bob dylan at glastonbury in 98 and this one guy tried to push past another guy, the guy said no way and the dickhead was saying if you dont move I will stab you. It was probably all macho talk but the guy let him past then.
mrtourette
It's quite funny how offended you are getting... it wasn't like I was making a totally out there statement... maybe I should have clarified it a bit more with them being easily one of the biggest metal bands currently touring... As far as metal bands go they are a bona fide headliner and yes one of the biggest bands in their genre... I don't see how it can be measured that the buzz has faded... they've evidently got people talking on here... and they have been booked to headline another fest so obviously that booker thinks there is still enough buzz about them to warrant them being a headliner... plus the reunion buzz and the rarity of their shows statements shouldn't be used to paint an image of their entire popularity... they were able to headline festivals before their reunion so there was no reunion hype then and they weren't exactly being one hit wonders as this was a tour on the back of another album, two albums after their most successful album. I maybe biased but I think any band able to headline festivals around the world (not just one country) consistently can be regarded as one of the biggest bands around. Sorry if that offends you so but I'm not basing this all on my love of the band... if I was then I would be trying to claim Brand New and System of a Down are the two biggest bands in the world. Anywayz if you want to have a retort against this fair enough but it really isn't worth arguing over. So I will end with woot to SOAD headlining or subbing the festival... either will be amazing. I'm going to enjoy it either way. Edited January 8, 2013 by mrtourette

thetime
It seems the dicks get more prevalent every year as well... but then that seems the same everywhere... not gonna stop me from going to fests... easily the best part of my year and hopefully this year will be the best ever. mrtourette
Reading's been noticeably better the last couple of years, hats off to the organisers. All the twats seem to be at V (if the internet is to be believed), although it won't take much for them to come back to R&L.

eFestivals
I've tried looking up what happened at Reading but i can't find anything, all it brings up is the incident at Leedsperhaps I'm getting confused in my old age. Perhaps it was only at Leeds and not Reading.I have an image in my mind of it happening, and i've not been to Leeds so I'm picturing Reading. But perhaps that's how I pictured it in my mind at the time it happened, and that's now making me think it was at Reading.Soz if i've been stupid. SOAD
I'm not offended at all, or is this one of those internet argument tricks where you try and get around an impasse by suggesting it's funny that the other person is getting annoyed (even when they aren't) or that they need to get out and get a life? Your initial suggestion that they are one of the biggest metal bands is ridiculously out there. They cannot compete and any level or indicater of 'biggest' with AC/DC. Maiden, Sabbath or Metallica. Like I said if you want to row back and change it to 'modern metal' or 'currently touring' then fair enough, but that's completely different. Either way I don't give a shit either, but if you're going to make unsubstantiated claims on an internet forum then don't be surprised when people have a differing view or disagree. DL50
Don't want to get into a big argument but personally i think SOAD are easily big enough They have the album sales to back it up, and have headlined all over Europe since being back. They have only done 1 show in the UK since reforming, and still appeal to a large proportion of the R&L demographic. So i think the reunion buzz would still be there And i don't see how you could think demand for Biffy or other recent headliners like MCR and the piss poor incarnation of Guns N Roses would be much greater Just my opinion though, clearly a lot of people don't think they're big enough
