Wow what a great edition. I have finally got the festival I wanted. Ever since 2011, always wanted to return I got my chance and it delievered in spades...

2014 and bumper 30years edition most definitely!

They will give everybody the massive headliners back in return!

The Boiler Room was insane this year and the sound oh my days the bass was beautiful...

Now to drink and eat waffles till my plane trip home!

Back from our 11th Pukkelpop, and another cracker. Good to see Semprini and his friends again. And to meet DiscothequeDave and jimmyjimmy4080 for the first time.

Expected highlights:

Miles Kane, Johnny Marr, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, !!! and Crystal Castles, who were brilliant, even if they pissed everyone off by being an hour late (official reason was a "broken down tour bus", if you believe that).

Other highlights:

Chuck Ragan, Polica, Low, Pokey Lafarge, Noisettes, Clock Opera, Jagwar Ma, Midlake, and The XX were better than I expected.

Neil Young highlights:

Eels doing Cinnamon Girl

Low doing a beautiful brooding version of Down by the River.

Did any other bands do a Neil Young tribute that I missed?

Lowlights:

Frank turner pulling out with a bad back

Pouring an entire bottle of water over my mobile phone, which is now knackered (thought I'd be clever and carry the bottle in my shorts pocket, but the pocket was too wide and it fell over...). My shoe filled with water into the bargain. Niiice...

The first hour of the cycle ride back to Eindhoven in the pissing rain. We got soaked...

Already looking forward to doing it all again next year (apart from the bits with the water).

Update: Just checked the phone and it's come back to life. Hurrah for the old school Nokia 3210. Bet you a smartphone wouldn't have been that robust...

got back home yesterday..

PP was AMAZING!

it was my first time at a festival and I doubt if there is a better way to start with festivals..

beside few disappointments such as Frank Turner cancel, pretty weak merchandise of the festival and the fact that I didn't see all that I plan (feel sorry I didn't see Bombino,Triggerfinger,Haim from the beginning and few more)

the festival was truly great!

in my opinion the greatest show was by Skunk Anansie and other favorites acts for me are NIN,The Prodigy,Killswitch Engage and Opeth.

the big surprises for me were Glen Hansard,Caliban & Pokey Lafarge acts that were a lot more than I expect.

that was a big party and great time and hope that you all have fun

maybe I'll be back next year!

Nosia for me were amazing they seemed to be loving every second of it..

I left Crystal Castles 15mins in for Franz because I realised Alice Glass is such a pretentious twat even her music was proper kicking...

Highlights for me were knife party, polica, i am kloot they were so good, and Crystal Fighters who tore the Club apart what a great band live...

Goose, bits of Oizo, zeds dead delivered my bass needs..

I miss the boiler room :-(

Attempt to remember everyone I saw coming up!

Boiler Party (obviously!)

School is Cool

Imagine Dragons

Mac Miller

Deftones

Miles Kane

Johnny Marr then the rest of...

Nine inch Nails

Eminem

Noah and the Whale

Major Lazer

Fun

Skunk Anansie (one of the highlights for me, loved it)

Pokey la Farge (just the end of the show, which was a shame as they were really good)

Noisettes

The Family Rain (who I met at the hotel the next day, they're really small, like The Borrowers)

Regina Spektor

Alabama Shakes

Bat for Lashes

Foals

Haim

Franz Ferdinand

The XX

and lots of other bits and bobs, including some of Deftones and some of Triggerfinger. Disappointed that Friday finished early for me too, as I would have liked to have seen Eels at least but probably had too many beers in the sun and felt awful, motivation was probably stripped a bit by no Neil Young too, so called it a night early. Pint of water, couple of ibuprofen and slept for about 10 hours - felt chipper after that though.

Also saw Crystal Castles at the airport, wonder if they were an hour late for their flight?

Had a chance to take stock now and the conclusion I've come to is that this was one of the best Pukkelpop's I've attended. Loads of important factors came together over the weekend and there wasn't really anything I came across that I didn't like, be it music or otherwise. Atmosphere was friendly and vibrant as always and my record of not seeing any bother or trouble is still firmly intact.

Music wise, too many highlights to narrow it down to 5 so I'll indulge myself and do it by stage. This is by no means a definitive list of who I saw but some (who are not mentioned) were only for a song or too.

Main

Imagine Dragons - good starter on Thurs and enjoyed the songs I recognised from the album

Eminem - stood near the tress and it was more out of curiosity than anything else. Crowd was huge.

Chase and Status - hung out at the back and almost gave up due to the delay. They didn't do it for me this time, seemed like they were going through the motions.

Twenty One Pilots - great set. Love the album and got into the positive vibe they created on the day.

The Prodigy - stood at the back again as couldn't be bothered/too wasted to fight my way through. Kind of wish I had made the effort now as the atmosphere is always great. Did enjoy it though.

Foals - really enjoyed them but would have liked a few more songs off the new album (or just the new album in it's entirety). Also bumped into Yannis for a quick chat earlier in the day in the Castello. Think my 'looking forward to your set' comment helped him to get in the zone later on.

Marquee

Miles Kane - had intended to only watch half of this so I could see Aluna George too but stayed for the whole set. He put on a great show but it was really loud, almost to the point of being painful. Probably should have moved back from the speakers but that was where all the gang was so stuck it out.

Paul Kalkbrenner - stood outside the Marquee for him and it was ok. Probably would have been better in the thick of it but was in a group and we weren't going to fight our way through.

Dance Hall

Charli XCX - Loved this. There's nothing to her but she has a great stage presence and the live sound was true to the album. Lots of fun!

Klangarussell - tent was rammed so we stood near the disabled platform. One of my highlights of the weekend - atmosphere was great and the music was spot on.

TNGHT - Enjoyed the set but it never really seemed to kick off properly. Think I was in need of some heavy kick drums by this stage of the night.

Animal Music - put lots of effort in and were clearly happy to be there. Liked some of the tracks but they brought some female singer on who was woeful. Totally out of tune but she only came on for one track so not too much damage done.

DOPE D.O.D. - Big crowd and big tunes to match. Was great to hear 'What happened' at the end of the set. Probably in my top 10 (if I had one).

Toddla T Sound - great fun and lots of good music. Brought our Shola Ama towards the end and she sounded incredible.

Proxy - much better than last time when it was just all electro noise. Really good 4/4 beats and came at a crucial stage of the evening so was very welcome!

!!! - like many others, loved them! Highlight was easily the lead singer falling over. Was a proper arse over tit as well. He didn't even try to cover it up which made it all the better.

Will do the others tomorrow as feeling knackered again and off to bed.

Nice shows/discovering/ unexpected:

Skunk Anansie, XXYYXX, Noisette

Imagine Dragons, Mac Miller, Eels

Eminem

this was the best festival i've ever been to! (roskilde 07, benicassim 11 and groezrock 12)

the weather, the atmosphere, the festival set-up and stages, the variety in the music! you can jump from the future world sounds of castello, to getting some hardcore metal shouted at you in the shelter, to the amazing dance and edm in the boiler room, and then go catch fucking nine inch nails in the mainstage!

slow magic, the guy who replaced xxyyxx was the best show of the festival for me, he played an amazing set at castello, tribal electronic music, with the mask and all, and in the middle of the show he takes his drum, jumps into the crowd and opens a huge drumming circle around him, everybody went mental and it was just amazing vibes.

other highlights include major lazer, who were a great addition in my mind (and everybody i talked to), the sunny afternoon spot worked really well with their music as well.

RL GRIME, who played the most hype edm trap set i've ever heard.

NIN, despite not playing closer and hurt (guess because it was a short show)

fucking Bonobo at the marquee, i completely spaced out to their music, was crazy

eminem put on a great show as well, i think most people considered him and major lazer as the highlights

had great fun at gy!be tnght james blake opeth and so many others (i was running around like a maniac caught nearly 30 shows and enjoyed all of them pretty much)

only real let-down was kendrick lamar who showed up on stage high as fuck and couldn't really properly sing all of his stuff, but he's like one of my favorite acts in the world so i still managed to enjoy that.

i think i might hold out on next year for a bit to see if they handle the headliners properly, but if they do im deffo coming back.

Feeling just about human again, has taken me about 3 days to recover this time round! Might have something to do with the fact I didn't get back to the hotel until 6.30am on Sunday morning and was then up and out again a few hours later for the journey home.

Couple of points of interest: Skynet.be have the live streams archived and they're all pretty much full sets. Loads on there so well worth a look, particularly if your memory is a bit patchy like mine! Also found a Dutch news article which was all about the Prince rumour. Said pretty much what I had heard but they were unable to substantiate it with anyone official. Apparently Chokri ran off when they asked him about it!

Castello

In the Valley Below - quite a hypnotic sound and a gentle introduction to the day. Missed them playing 'Hymnal' though when I went for a beer so was a bit gutted about that as it's my favourite track. Really weird relationship between the man and women in the band - she kept wiping his brow and was completely fawning over him throughout the entire set.

Ms Mr - didn't disappoint at all. Live sound was true to the album and they played all the tracks I love. 'Think of you' was a definite highlight. Am going to see them again in October when they come to town. Top 5.

Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosuars - what a set. Was front right and I don't think I stopped dancing the whole way through, even during the breaks between songs! Stage set up and lights were great, crowd was well up for it and the tunes sounded bigger and more dancetastic than ever, I didn't want it to end! Narrowly edged into 2nd place for the whole festival - loved it!

Maya Jane Coles/SBTRKT/Ben Pearce/Julio Bashmore/Mosca/Jamie XX - was very excited in the build up for the DJs in the Castello and, with the slight exception of Jamie XX, they all delivered. Maya Jane Coles was the pick of the bunch - tunes were superb and the atmosphere was great. I did enjoy some of the tracks Jamie XX played but it was a bit of a messy set and his mixing was sloppy. He was probably pissed and on a high after the headline set so I won't haul him over the coals too much. Loved the underground edge to the place when the DJs came on and the crowd seemed to be a bit more tuned in to the music than over at the Boiler.

Jagwar Ma - had heard good reviews of their live show beforehand and the album was one of my favourites. Neither really prepared me for how good they were on the day though and I was completely mesmerized from start to finish. All the tracks seemed to have been beefed up for the live show and it was just one big psychedelic dance party! Stood about 15m back in the centre and there were a number of times when I just closed my eyes and let the music take over. It was not only the best performance I saw all weekend but one of the best I've seen at Pukkelpop. Sadly the Autumn tour is not coming anywhere near me but if it's pulling in near to where you live then I urge you to go, they are amazing.

Club

Allah Las - solid performance and true to the album, enjoyed it.

Pokey Lafarge - fantastic individual musicians, very tight as a band and the music was like nothing else I heard all weekend. Was a real breath of fresh air and the crowd was vibrant and up for a party, despite it being 12pm on the last day. Top 5.

Shelter

Alkaline Trio - one of the group I was with wanted to see them and I have vague memories of being there late on Thursday. Weren't offensive by any means but the crowd was quite small considering they were the 'headline' act (thanks to Slayer).

Don Broco - was a bit surprised they played in the Shelter but the live sound was a lot heavier than the cd. Crowd was quite small but very enthusiastic. Lead singer was trying hard and even managed to get a wall of death and a circle pit going. The band were clearly chuffed to be there and that is infectious - really enjoyed it.

Boiler Room

Saw loads in here over the weekend but the stand out ones for me were Wilkinson, TC, Friction, Gorgon City and Duke Dumont. There wasn't a massive amount of DJs on over the weekend who I'd pay to see play but the set up was so good that I loved being there just for that!! The shade the back structure provided was very welcome but I'm still in awe of the lights. Not sure how they'll top that in the future but I'm sure they'll come up with something. The lay out meant that you could be in the back structure and still feel like you were a part of it, particularly at night, and this was a very clever design. Sound could have been a bit louder at times but I just stood in front of a speaker stack so it wasn't too much of an issue.

Thanks to DiscothequeDave and JimmyJimmy for the great company over the weekend, same time, same place next year lads? Tried to meet up with a couple of other board members but it didn't come together. Hope you all had a great time and here's to #pkp14!!
