dentalplan
Probably a stupid suggestion, but how big is lovebox? I know it's at victoria park but looking at previous headliners i don't know whether depeche mode would fit in?
the wonderwhy
I searched efests for August/September festivals, and the on viable options (IMO) that came up were V, R&L, Creamfields and then this Glasgow thing We need to know their US dates really. Gucci Piggy
DM only announcing one show in uk points to a festival appearence somewhere. Does the date being in london point to the glasgow date? Maybe, maybe not. I know theres a few that think creamfields as they are on the edge of dance music, my opinion is that I just cant see it. V or r&l, I would say v as generally have an older crowd and probably fit in there more. Then again have they the pulling power for v? Again unsure. So in summary, I dont have a fooking clue. thetime
I don't think they'd fit in at all at V now. The only older bands I could see there are the likes of The Stone Roses, Oasis and Blur. I doubt Depeche Mode would be appreciated, and I couldn't see the likes of The Cure playing there. Gucci Piggy
You could be and are probably right, might be the glasgow thing but would that class as a festival date? Not sure how there billing it.
thetime
I think they announced it as being a festival, as people were talking about Eminem not being a festival exclusive due to playing there. Either way, it really just comes down to whether the person who gave Neil the info considers it a festival or not. It's the same sort of thing as Hard Rock Calling isn't it? the wonderwhy
Its 5 gigs over ten days isn't it? Depeche Mode, Eminem, Kings Of Leon, Biffy then Beyonce/Gaga gives a good mix.
Gucci Piggy
Unsure will ive not looked into the glasgow thing, just that eminems playing Eminem biffy DM Would look quite weak to the general public so cant see it.
Gingo
The Glasgow summer sessions is not a festival despite how it is being billed, it is a series of gigs with a few supports on each, definitely wouldnt call it a festival
Asdaprice
What someone above said - I think DP would look to alienating for most reading goers. People have already claimed about Eminem "Rap headliner WTF!???" and Biffy "What that shit band that covered that X factor song!??? (morons)". I don't think DP would help the situation at all, despite being cool. At least Blur would have the "but its Blur, Indie Rock N Roll, Britpop, Parklife!" factor about them. # all quotes are what I would imagine the average 17 year old reading goer to act like. thesecretingredientiscrime
Yeah that's using common sense from a festival goers point of view, which bookers aren't really used to.

Asdaprice
Isn't that the case for most bands who break up? Certainly was for Oasis. I can't remember the Stone Roses breakup (too young) but from what I read they were disastrous just before. Look at the Fall Out Boy reception last week. Don't think there are many bands who break up at their peak.

thesecretingredientiscrime
very true, the only band i can think of that might have is RATM - but thats because of my opinion that Battle of LA is their best (shocking I know), and I dont even know if they were still riding fairly high at that time. Most other bands release shit before realising they've had their hey day (or in the case of RHCP - realising it but thinking fuck it these are still cool jamz! Lets plague our setlists with some more shit!)
the wonderwhy
Oh yeah I totally agree, bands go away for a couple of years and people miss there hits. The old guys like myself who want to hear stone roses(disapointed, wait 20 years for it), blur etc etc. It was the best thing for blur as I saw them on one fo there final tours at nec and it was just standing with no seating being sold. Its difficult with fall out boy and seeing how big they are on there reunion, the gig only had something like 500 tickets so it built the hype more. FOB have a youngish sound or the fans they attract anyway, have alot of the fans grown out of there music? No idea the answer.

thetime
As I mentioned in another thread, the year RATM split, they played fourth at R&L.
dentalplan
I think the biggest shame about music these days is, aside from Arctics and maybe Biffy, I can't think of many bands that would break up and then make an 'iconic' comeback like The Stone Roses or Blur.
