i'm sure Festival Republic aren't so desperate for a headliner that they'd get Linkin Park. Linkin Park seem like a weak headliner at Download, never mind Reading and Leeds

i'm not sure whether the comment should be taken as a throwaway or not, but Black Sabbath seem like the most likely option surely

SOAD won't be under Blur, or Arctics. that'd just be bizarre. and considering SOAD are themselves a huge sub, it'd take a huge headliner to make sense of it. Sabbath

ah i'd totally forgotten about The Prodigy. that'd make sense also, if not seem a bit underwhelming (also, two non guitar band headliners! surely not!)

can't see it being Pearl Jam. do the general R/L crowd give a shit about Pearl Jam? not sure. though i guess the same could possibly be said about Black Sabbath

I think the whole reading and leeds crowd giving a shit thing shouldn't be too much of an issue - I wouldn't say the cure were the average rnl goers favourite of choices last year. With this year having so much alt stuff, I'm sure there's a band of each genre somewhere at the time to keep people happy. Can't wait to find out who this mystery 3rd is, but also the subs too because except soad I don't think we have any yet

Agree with the statement we have all our 3rd tops....if its a strong year, deftones and foals could be 4th though.

I honestly don't think it'll be the headliners that affect whether this fest sells out or not. It's always popular with young people, and the new dance/dubstep/grime stages will enforce that. Eminem is huge and has loads of fans, biffy are just about huge and have loads of fans, and whether its prodigy or sabbath, they will have loads of fans too.

I think prodigy is more suited to readings audience though. Black sabbath are just too old I think in lots of people's opinions (not mine), and I've heard they weren't great at download. I can't see just having sabbath is gonna attract the old school rockers either, so I don't know what they'll gain from it

You heard wrong. They were phenomenal at Download.

It's not the "old school rockers" they would be for. I'm 27, and Sabbath and System are a huge deal, and enough to get loads of people who I know (including myself) interested in/excited about going back to Reading. If it is Sabbath, it's the best set of headliners since '08.

Maybe the new stages are to placate the trendies as the main stage is going to be a bit heavier this year?
