Yellow_Fellow
It kind of annoys me when a "massive" act is booked & people jump on the "they'll sell out the festival no problem" bandwagon... a festival is about more than just one act & I'm fairly certain Eminem doesn't have the ability to shift over 160,000 weekend tickets at over £200 a go with a line up that isn't suited to his core fan base. I am also yet to hear a convincing argument against RHCP, not saying it will be them by any stretch of the imagination, just that the reasons people use to rule them out are often shite. Gucci Piggy
Well Melvin said when talking about 2007 "we booked the biggest headliner, instead of the best, and that will never happen again." When you look at the other headliners that year, its perfectly clear who he was referring to. Unless Melvin REALLY had faith and a slightly skewed vision of Razorlight. There is also the infamous BBQ of course.
devilman
I think prodigy is more suited to readings audience though. Black sabbath are just too old I think in lots of people's opinions (not mine), and I've heard they weren't great at download. I can't see just having sabbath is gonna attract the old school rockers either, so I don't know what they'll gain from it

dentalplan
That's fair enough, rules them out for this year I guess. I don't accept the general argument given every year of "Melv said they were shit in 07, so he'll never book them again, ever." It just doesn't work like that. Asdaprice
in the next few years i'm sure RHCP will be back - to be fair to 07s performance, they were knackered after years of touring, John clearly didn't want to be in the band, and the sound problems at the start didn't help their attitudes either (anyone remember that? Johns guitar messing up at the start AND end of their 1st song!) didn't set up for a positive show for anyone that's for sure. Their live shows have got better I've heard since Josh has bought younger blood, and they play more old stuff. They just need new decent stuff and they'll got booked - they still sell out everywhere. jonodillieono
^You could buy tickets the week before their stadium gigs on eBay for £1 and people still weren't buying. They're certainly not as big as they once were

kev1664
Sabbath were amazing at Download. Iommi gave a masterclass. SOAD is what has attracted me to Leeds but Sabbath cements the deal in nuclear proof cast iron. I think I could be considered an old rocker FWIW. This makes me laugh. Ozzy couldn't sing even in the studio. He's a front man more than a vocalist and he nailed it. I do like prodigy but anyone can play a backing track and shout over it about warriors with big flashy lights. For that reason I was out and saw some real live music from Slash. Metallica were their usual polished selves and whilst excellent were pipped by sabbath. If they are announced for R/L then I will have a little sex wee in my pants. devilman
The fact is almost any obe of us could have done what ozzy did on stage(walk back andd forward and put your hands up as if to say to the crowd cheer). So did you/ have you actually seen the prodigy? I went to watch slash, I chose him over the prodigy, but the first twenty minutes were so, so dull that I left as soon as I saw the lights come on on the main stage and went to watch a band I was entertained by. Slash was just like black label society, total over indulgent boredom. Yeah I live guitars, but u want the songs to actually go somewhere instead if extended solo after extended solo. W!NNER
I picked Slash over Prodigy also, a wise wise move, thought he was brilliant as always & Myles' voice was phenomenal. Metallica were good, but I thought they were better at Sonisphere 11. Sabbath however for me were the band of the weekend, nailed it. kev1664
Ozzy does much more than that. It amazes me that he manages any kind of stage presence at all after seeing him try and speak on the TV. He's one fucked up dude. Slash is a lead guitarist fronting a band that bears his name. If you didn't expect some lead guitar then you are a fool. There was clearly a lot of people there who do like lead guitar and solos. And if you do, he does them very well. Have I seen Prodigy? Yes. I pwned the T pits, made it to the front and got pick pocketed whilst watching them. They are very very good live. But they are what they are. If you really think that all the drumming and "synths" are live then you are misguided and anyone who slags of Ozzy's vocals but then touts the Prodigy as a superior is laughable. The vocals are awful. This never seems to detract from the live performance but if you watch it back on TV then it is cringeworthy at times. Still, if they are the 3rd headliner, I'll be there. jump
You serious!? Well I did not know that, I woulda gone! Thats true though, I guess they are still massive in my head because I'm of the Californication generation. After By The Way there has been a slip in quality and maybe the kids haven't been as mesmerized as I was! They'd still get booked though. Also (day off work tomorrow), I've started watching their bonaroo headline set from last year. There is definitely a better form, and a fuller sound with the bongo player and synth guy that I think helps the live show alot, especially now since enthusiastic John's passing onto whatever it is he does now
jordanuk90
Given the choice of Metallica, Blur or Prodigy I'd take Metallica even though it'd be the third time in 3 years. Maybe they could play St Anger in full for the 10 year anniversary
