They aren't doing any other festivals. They aren't touring in the uk after July. It's unlikely they will just come back for reading. Plus their glasto set will give them more coverage/publicity than a reading set. Promote their album and shit, they won't need to play reading.

For what it's worth (and obviously everyone can ignore this if they want ) I heard Arctics were 'playing at least one UK festival' (which can be taken a couple of ways) a while back, think it was shortly after T and IOW had announced. That led me to believe they were doing R&L and/or Glasto (as I think I said). Then Neil obviously got his Friday Glasto info and I've been confident its right up until he all but confirmed it the other day. During that time I also got told they 'weren't doing festivals past July' which is obviously what other people have been told, as you can hear in the interview with the guy who books Werchter in Belgium, and that ruled out R&L.

Not trying to 'do a Gazza' or anything, and Neil's info is of course better/more trustworthy because of the links and history he's got, but every little helps

I don't think that particularly helps with the exclusivity thing, but IMO they will probably only do Glaso as it will have the least impact on ticket sales for their Arena tour that I'm (fairly) confident will be happening end of this year/beginning of next.

Oh, and btw that info came from the same guy who told me about the XFM Biffy show the night before, which was of course right

Still convinced it's Linkin Park. There's no way they'll go through a 2-year album cycle without playing ANY UK dates. Plus all the other reasons previously stated.

IMO Green Day sounds like the most likely candidate. Or maybe a complete curveball that nobody's even though of yet.

When was the last time we didn't know or have a pretty good idea who one of the headliners was right up until the announcement? I'm thinking maybe G'n'R? Or did Neil get that one just in the nick of time?

I might be wrong on the 'exclusive' thing, I just don't think they will play this year... Glasto will satisfy all their needs, they won't need to do anything else.

Sounds mean but I just want people to stop thinking they are playing, and then end up being dissapointed

I'm still saying Sabbath, or an outside chance of Metallica ("break from the studio"). With System as subs, I can't see it being anyone else. Nor do I want it to be.

Have Linkin Park ever played with SOAD though? Referring back to that interview SOAD did, saying the reason they're playing R/L is because they know/and are friends with the third headliner. Linkin Park would be rather underwhelming. As would most predictions on this board currently. The only one I think I'd be happy about would be Rage. Someone mentioned it could be Tool, which is pretty funny. Can't see that happening.

They would be exclusive, are still playing shows in August, and maybe somewhere down the line they played with SOAD. Wouldn't surprise me.

Sabbath: fits the kerrang clue, would be exclusive, and would fit above system. Neils hunch goes off this though.

Next I'd say is Green Day, but other then that I think it will be a completely new headliner idea that no one has said.

Blink maybe? They've released an album and an EP since last time out at Reading and have played with SOAD.

Many bands have played with SOAD and released more material since their last Reading appearance...i think 3 years between headline slots is possible...but only really for the 'massive' established acts such as Foos imo...i dont think Blink will be too high up the bookers' list so soon..

When was the last time R+L had 2 heavy bands filling the top 2 places on one day? 2005 with Maiden and Marilyn Manson and 2003 with SOAD and Metallica? I know they had Rage and Metallica both headlining in 2008, but generally, Reading seem to have a diverse range of acts in the top positions recently...

I wouldnt be surprised at all if the 3rd headliner was a more 'pop' based band, and of the 'pop' bands possible, Green Day seem to be the most likely..
