So if you didn't buy a day ticket at least, you weren't seeing it.

Duw13
Actually, if you objectively analyse their contribution to music, then yes, they are shit. Saying 'matter of opinion' or 'personal preference' all the time when it comes to music is boring and pointless. Pop-punk is an unimaginative, lowest-dominator, cheesy style of music, and Green Day just exemplify that. Linkin Park weren't the first band to mix rap with metal, or synths with metal, or even the best at it. They're a popular rehash of lots that went before, and they can't even play their songs live. Does that stop people liking either of those bands? No, and it shouldn't, but I will continue to call shit bands shit. Or is that only allowed when you dislike them? I suspect it'll be someone who we've mentioned in passing but assumed it won't be for some reason. None of the frequently referenced options seem likely. thetime
The fact is, though you may dislike them, bands like Linkin Park, Green Day, Foo Fighters, The Fratellis, The Vaccines etc. have found a way, all by themselves, to appeal to the masses in the same way that the likes of Minaj, Bieber and 1D require whole teams of PR people to do. Mouseboy11
What a terrible way to look at music, dont foo fighters have a pr team? Saying that grohl mentions nirvana in more or less every interview he does not need a pr team...just living on someone elses talents is enough. Oh my im a bitch. thetime
Definitely, only reason I've ever paid to see the Foo Fighters was because Dave was in Nirvana
thetime
I was playing Devil's Advocate to a degree, personally I think that if you enjoy a song/band, you enjoy a song/band, as long as it's your own opinion and you don't just like it because all your friends do/it's in the charts/you think it makes you a gangsta or whatever, that's your own choice. To turn around and say "this band's shit because they're too formulaic and they just make music to appeal to the masses" is just as stupid an argument as to say "this band's shit because no-one's heard of them" or "this band's shit because it's indie mosher crap" Edited February 25, 2013 by thetime
kaosmark2
I hate this sort of attitude- not every band has to be incredibly groundbreaking to be "objectively good". By that logic you're looking at a very, very, very small pool of bands who were any good. Everyone copies someone else to some degree. When bands experiment, it doesn't always go right, and when it does go right, then what's the harm in some bands being influenced by that and making similar music? If it was that easy to make "formulaic music that appeals to the masses", then no one would stand out. That's quite an achievement, and it could be argued just as much of an achievement as being a "groundbreaking", "experimental" band, who could very well throw all sorts of shit at a wall and people'd only remember the stuff that stuck. atomised
Someone who agrees that foo fighters became as big because of the Nirvana connection. So many times people have argued im wrong on that
Asdaprice
Nirvana are over rated, and I love them. Discuss.... The point I'm trying to make is what makes a band that aren't shit? Nirvana went big because of never mind, which is a great album, but a jaw dropping holy shit album? No. In my opinion it's like a weezer album. Quiet verse, loud chorus, popular punk (labelled grunge because of the scene). You could argue they weren't the 1st to do that style, because of the pixies who influenced them massively. A band is great if they have great songs and can perform a great set, but never will everyone in the world agree on those things for any band. Yellow_Fellow
welcome to efests We're all so edgy, musical is objective and nirvana are not the best Anyway. NIN. seriously. This is great news. They should do a UK Fest. 6 years since their last, would build nice to their US shows. Subbing Biffy would be mind blowing Gaz but where's the source?
