The point I'm trying to make is what makes a band that aren't shit? Nirvana went big because of never mind, which is a great album, but a jaw dropping holy shit album? No. In my opinion it's like a weezer album. Quiet verse, loud chorus, popular punk (labelled grunge because of the scene). You could argue they weren't the 1st to do that style, because of the pixies who influenced them massively.

A band is great if they have great songs and can perform a great set, but never will everyone in the world agree on those things for any band.

Yes. Nirvana took the world by storm in the early nineties with never mind, and after that drugs and a mediocre album got to them. Nirvana would have had to step the game up massively, but foos wouldn't have got the limelight had they still existed.

Nirvana weren't even the first grunge band.... Mudhoney/Soundgarden/Screaming Trees/Pearl Jam all came before them.

What makes a band not be shit, is doing something different to everyone else (not necessarily phenomenally ground-breakingly different), or doing something better.

That would be amazing, but I can't see where they would fit on the line up? Would have thought they'd sub the 'heavy' day but System seem to have got that taken up already. Maybe 2014?

I agree with that. For me Nirvana didn't bring anything new to the table, they were just a mainstream equivalent to 80s alt rock scene in America and they were better bands than them that are largely ignored because of their success.

Most bands that make it huge aren't the founders of something. They're just the ones that luck out with a PR team. Nirvana were still a good band, but there were better in that movement.
