Sorry I'm late to the party, but if anything was it not harder for Grohl and the foo fighters to be successful as he had a shit load to live up to with being an ex member of nirvana, meaning if he had have released absolute dross or even mediocre then it would have bombed almost straight away and he/they would never have recovered.
