Who is the 3rd headliner likely to be?

That is an interesting question, what would the best possible realistic set of headliners be in terms of sales? Could never be proven of course, but my bet would be on something like

AC/DC (tempted to go with Led Zeppelin, but realism. Metallica maybe? Rolling Stones would be ridiculous as well)

Foo Fighters (need I say anything? Other possibilities could be Muse, Coldplay possibly, or U2)

Arctic Monkeys (Excluding Oasis, which is unrealistic, they're probably the most popular indie band for RnL. Sadly Mumford might prove this wrong though. Take your pick)

I would have had Biffy and Mumford together, with The XX in there.

With regards to who would I have had headline, as I said, I don't know who was possible, or who R&L may not have even bothered to get.

I don't really know who you mean out of the remaining choices. If you're talking about the ones on here, i'd say the best of a bad situation would be to get one of them to do some type of landmark set, that's different from what they're doing elsewhere.

The thing is, you say a few big acts, but that's not the case is it? Assuming Green Day and NIN play, that's four out of the six major slots given to acts like that. I'd argue something with that much overload hasn't happened since 2000.

If we're talking purely to improve sales

- Massive expansion of late night stuff.

- No headliners who have played more than one day ticket selling festival in their current touring cycle

- If headliners have either done the above or played lots of their own shows, get them to play landmark sets, like the way Muse did.

- Make undercards relevant, but be willing to mix genres throughout the weekend.

Firstly I meant out of anybody in the whole wide world, your ideals if you like (but realistic, no nirvanas, or led zeps). Then I meant out of the 5 so remaining rumoured for the final headline slot. I agree a landmark set would be a great seller, but surely its up to the artist to decide what they do? If you try and force them to do an album in full they might reply "f#ck off". But fair enough on Mumford, Biffy, and XX - I think there would have been backlash but it could have worked. And XX I reckon will play.

My ideals, who I think would sell, and who I think would be best for R&L are all very different things.

With regards to the second point, I'm sure most artists would prefer it, especially if they've been on a record tour.

I was going off the assumption NIN would subheadline one day, which seems to be the assumption now, but there seems to be more sources around at the moment than the HP factory, so it changes day to day.

Oh, loads of things. Actual late night dj's and live acts for a start. I would first recommend several smaller stages/tents, either open air, soundsystem style, so it's essentially just the dj on stage, or smaller tents. I realise there's not an infinite amount of space, so if the above can't be done, why not use one of the empty tents?

Eminem's played V and T in recent years, and played a major show in N.Ireland. I realise I didn't specify, but Green Day are also playing this massive show.

With regards to the last point, The Cure day in particular last year counters that, and I don't think they've mixed genres to the best way they possibly could since 2008.

It sounds like i'm infatuated with 2008, I fully blame myself as 2009 was the first year I went to R&L. I take full responsibility for all that went wrong. ;)

no in my opinion 2004 was the best year in the time i have been going to Leeds.

the whole experience was just that good, the atmosphere on site was the best i have known it, only one bad band seen which was the darkness (never going to make the mistake of seeing them again, and i think if i remember right missed kasabian on the nme :( ) and the weather was spot on
