People vote for short term reasons on the whole. Attlee govt is often seen as the pinnacle for Labour, but they didn't feel the benefit of all the stuff they did and were only in power for a term and a bit, then it was Tories for the next 13 years.
I think my abiding hope is that a few of these acts might pop up for sideshows around the date.
Tickles me that GNR have not sold out Villa Park themselves yet, of course. Take a look at Block A3 there - barely a seat sold.
The whole immigration thing is a nightmare for Labour...reduce immigration will likely have negative effects for economy, public services and growth. Being tough on asylum seekers loses them their liberal voters to Lib Dems and Greens, and you're not going to stop them coming in anyway and it just helps Reform by making it the story. But at same time there are a whole load of voters whom immigration is a very important issue, rightly or wrongly, and just ignoring them or telling them they're wrong or racists or bigots isn't going to work either. What labour need to do is hope the economy picks up, hope all this Trump and global stuff doesn't f**k things up too much for them, and improve public services as much as possible without upsetting too many people on the way.. Looks kind of impossible to me. Even the whole planning and building stuff will not likely give any positive benefit for well past the next election, and in mean time is just going to piss everyone off.
What people like is more stuff, and don't take anything away...they want more public spending, but not higher taxes...which where the whole drive to get growth is coming from...but they ain't going to get it...and somehow on top of this they now need to find a sh*t load more for defence.
