Emperor is a bit of a steep claim though.

Being able to wash. I'd have called that upper-working, lower-middle class onwards. General Camping being Chavtopia.

But Emperor? I want to be washed with squirrel milk in a gold bath by oiled-up naked women before I consider myself an Emperor.

Its good to see theres a dedicated spot this year for it, was an eye opener going to wickerman last year and seeing the dedicated field with the larger toilets where you could park the car next to the tent, made it so much easier. The emperors is close to the arena so when we couldnt find a dedicated area the first year we went we were quite happy to to put the tent up close to the arena entry, you could camp next to the car in those days as well which made life easier

hey all,

finally registered here.....its been a long time since last at a festival (Leeds '02 I think - the GnR one)

Figured would try taking the missus to her first, and was desperate to see Seasick Steve after having missed out on Glasto tickets....looks forward to it now.

This thread has been great, some great answers that clear a lot of stuff up.

I have some more questions though :) Sorry if some of these may have been answered before whilst have been skimming through might have missed the odd one.

1. Can we take bottled water (infused with vodka or shock horror, actual water) in with us? I remember back in Leeds '02 days, you could take plastic bottles in, but they had to be poured empty before you went through the main gates to the music areas.

2. On the main concert grounds, is there drinking water available? The website only talks about bottled water being available to buy etc...but surely they need to provide drinking water (especially if some people have little kids with them). Again, in Leeds, they had water fountains of sorts (that were often used as a shower substitute by people after a heavy dance&bounce session). i'll be buying my beers/lagers whatever in there, (and maybe sneak a hip flask or spirits in), but will of course like to rehydrate myself with plenty of water.....but I'm not the type of person that likes actually paying for water for the sake of it being in a bottle lol (aka tight git)

3. We have main camp tickets (and the thursday entry)...we were too late to get the emporers field tickets. Am I right in understanding there are 2 areas for the main camp, or 3? Quiet/Family area, and the 'loud area'.....mid 30s so quiet for us.....so is the Quiet area also part of the kids area too, or a seperate 3rd area for the grumpies that don't like little 'uns running about (not that it bothers us - just curious)

4. ...and of course got this far....then forgot what my other questions were....doh!!

You could try taking some bottled water in with you, if the seal isn't broken on the bottle I can't imagine security kicking off. If you were gonna top bottles up yourself then give it a try and you might be lucky, security are probably more interested in people smuggling beers in.

Never seen any drinking fountains available in the arena, you just had to buy them from a shop or bar, don't think they were silly prices though. Again, just try taking a bottle in, would guess you'll be ok with it. There's drinking water available in main campsites.

There are 2 main camping areas, general and emperors, this year they're making more effort to direct people in to an area that will be more appropriate for them inside the general camping section. Don't think there's an official divide but there was mention of making a family area, quiet area and the normal general area. When people initially bought tickets some were asked their preference to give the planners an idea what size to apportion to each section. With you having Thursday tickets you won't have an issue getting where you want.

Hope that helps a bit, any more then just ask.

cheers Ramragon,

So I'm guessing the 'quiet'/'family' area would more likely be regarded as being further away from the main concert area....as presume they'll target the rowdier lot towards the front. I don't mind noise like to an extent, but would like to minimise the chances of having some young students puking or widdling on the tent :) Mid 30s and got old and grumpy as the years have gone on :)

I've took some of your other ideas, with the ice box (got an old 60s/70s one from parents loft), will try a couple of milk cartons frozen in there over the next few days to see out of curiosity how long it lasts out in the sun (once it's been thoroughly bleached and rid of spider leg bits etc :) Will be a lot more organised than our uni lads night out back in '02 where we basically used lager with our toothpaste, and lager for breakfast lunch and dinner :).

I'm rarely lucky to get back twice in one week for breakfast back home, so it'll be a treat in the mornings for me when camping :)

Oh another question.....as you can leave (on foot only) the site, is there a supermarket or shops near walking distance, if you want to stock up on more food/drinks?

You can leave on foot, a few people are staying in the village so going back and forth shouldnt be too bad but could be a bit of a hike, theres a few locals on here that could comment on distances and what shops are avialable in the village, there is a general dealer style shop on site that sell milk, bread, fruit juice and stuff like that.

Yeah, quieter will be further away from the arena, still just a few minutes walk though not a mile down the road
