The cost and personal inconcvenience - it's very rare for touring major US bands to do such a thing and they will normally tie in all of their European gigs/festivals into one vist either at the start or end of the Summer.

Maybe you could look at it another way though, its a chance for them to spend some time with their families and have a small break. I'm sure if they were offered enough money they wouldn't mind the inconvenience as much.

Reading town centre has a Yates', a Walkabout AND an O'Neill's. I think they'd give Bilbao a sharp body swerve in favour of that holy trinity. Uno, Dos, Tres indeed.

I'm sure it would, but would a festival want to pay whatever it takes? I'm not saying it won't happen, but history shows that it rarely does which is why it's something that people are taking into consideration when assessign the likelihood of Green Day (and other) playing. Anything could happen, but without the patterns and precedents that allow us to grasp onto the delusion that we have some kind of knowledge this whole place would fall to pieces.

I was thinking this today, I still don't think they can be ruled out as easily as everyone would like!

The Woolys is no longer abandoned, I think there's only one Gregg's in the town centre (although several others in outlying reaches and suburbs) and yes one Starbucks (although more Costas and the other one with the blue logo).
