Siamesedream22
Does anyone else think there is a bit too much dance and hip hop on the nme stage this year? Don't get me wrong i like both genre's but i just think skrillex, Asap Rocky, major lazor and disclosure are wasted spots when they have brought in the dance stage for 3 days and the new 1xtra stage. Seems rather odd as a lot of similar stuff will be clashing and i feel it would of been a good chance to have some older bands, Weezer, placebo, rancid etc
Mouseboy11
It does seem pretty ridiculous when they could all just go on the other stage.
DaveElNino
The Dance Stage wouldn't be big enough to hold the crowds they're obviously expecting for those acts. The organisers need to get a mix of old and new, and with the main stage full of acts towards the top who've been around for ages they've obviously gone newer on the R1 stage. That's obviously led to them going more in the dance/rap area as that's where the newer acts who can play those slots fit in.
thesecretingredientiscrime
I think a few people got a bit confused and thought because dance stage was going three days, there wouldn't be any of that "type" of stuff elsewhere. Siamesedream22
I can't imagine Asap Rocky getting a huge crowd on the nme? Just seems like a bit of waste having these artists in such high slots when they could mix it up a bit and have something different on the nme. I've been to Reading since 2009 and this year is the first i've been disappointed about the lineup it seems pretty weak, depends on who's lockup this year for me. thesecretingredientiscrime
The thing is, most of the artists are too big for elsewhere. ASAP sold out three Brixton nights, so NME is the only place for him really. I'll give you Major Laser being slightly odd, but Skrillex and Disclosure will both attract massive crowds. If it helps, ive been 2009 as well, and thought every year was weak haha. The thing is that most of these acts are too big for other stages, even if they fit them in a round about genre way. DL50
I'm still very surprised at how un-indie it is so far There will obviously be some indie acts announced on the lower stages, but there does seem to be too much dance/hip hop now Seems stupid that they don't have an indie alternative to Green Day and SOAD

dart
Hoping for some decent indie on the FR stage to be honest to counter act the shite NME tent.
thesecretingredientiscrime
The attempt at hip-hop/grime/rap whatever is woeful compared to the other genres
DL50
Does anyone think the lack of indieness has anything to do with the Lattitude lineup? A few bands there that i was expecting at Reading
dancelittleliar
It could have been great, Wiley, Frank Ocean and Kendrick Lamar would all have been pretty good bookings in that area. Don't think Disclosure is that bad of a booking, they are popular (and better than you give them credit for). It's Major Lazer, Skrillex, Devlin, ASAP and Azealia that are all awful choices. Could have even gone for a high Weeknd slot. I have no problem and can see why they're changing direction. It's inevitable, music changes and if it doesn't that makes it much worse. They just made some really poor choices/ lost out on good bookings. Dance tent is pretty solid though. Best it could have been.

dancelittleliar
I assume he was saying that grime/hip-hop/rap is woeful compared to other genres, while I then went on to point out there's just as much shit, such as Black Veil Brides among other genres, as there is in grime/hip-hop/rap. Tobieski
The problem I have is the fact Skrillex is yet to release a proper album and yet is headlining a 20,000 capacity tent? As for A$AP, he's huge amongst the younger demographic, as is Azealia.
