chickenfire
I was having a think today (after My Chemical Romance split up) about Leeds 2011 and how all 3 headliners were amazing (imo) and I remember them not being viewed as a strong set of headliners on paper. Has there been other years with all 3 headliners stepping up to the plate? I know other years have had better individual headline performances but what about all 3? dart
I genuinely thought 2012 all 3 of the headliners really stepped up to the plate, Foo Fighters were unbelievable, The Cure were godly, and though on this forum Kasabian seem to be quite disliked, I thought they did a really good job at Leeds. DL50
I would also agree that headliner wise, 2012 seems to have had the most universally strong response from everyone afterwards, compared to some of the past few years where there have always been complaints about at least
the wonderwhy
Yeah last year all 3 were awesome
sjseabass
Was very confused about this until I realised being at Leeds in 2011 meant you're considering Pulp being a headliner rather than the Strokes. The Strokes were awful, Pulp were awesome, so yeah, I can go along with that. Out of the three headliners last year I only watched all of one of them (Foos)...not gonna lie, found The Cure a bit boring for the first half hour, hence I went to watch the Subways. Came back for the end of The Cure though, the encore was good .

dancelittleliar
Kasabian are probably the best indie live act around, and they nailed it at Leeds. Cure were incredible of course and Foos were apparently brilliant for those who like them. It was a pretty good year for headliners I think. I can't comment on any other year because I haven't been, but there definitely wasn't a dead weight, and it was nicely rounded in 2012
chickenfire
Yeah, even at Leeds The Strokes were pretty terrible but Pulp closing the festival was simply wonderful.
lightning1000
Surely both pulp and arcade fire are better live acts than kasabian? Also blur, the xx, editors. Then again, I've never like kasabian, to me it just sounds like stock music made for adverts.

allan14
Last year was the first year i watched all three headliners, I didnt rate Kasabian tho. I watched the first half of Feeder and left when Kasabian started, wish i never left now! From what i saw of Feeder it looked to be one of the best sets of the year! SOAD
2006 was pretty good... Muse and Pearl Jam were incredible and thought Franz put on a great show despite there being literally no atmosphere (the weather did not help)

dancelittleliar
Here's a few examples for you. Both live and on record Edited March 23, 2013 by dancelittleliar
Babyquack
Are pulp and arcade fire better live acts though? Better on record, indisputably (I haven't seen either so I'm talking about what people have told me) but everyone I talk to who saw Arcade Fire said they were ranging from mediocre to good, but never incredible. Nobody's ever said to me "Pulp are an amazing live act" and a lot of people have said that about kasabian. Live I think they put on a helluva show Blur I can concede on, but xx and editors aren't headliners so doesn't count for my point
dancelittleliar
Pulp > Kasabian. Sorry but Pulp are just so much better - Jarvis is miles ahead of both Serge and Tom
thetime
What better indie bands (of headliner standard) are there? Kasabian are better than Killers, KOL, Arctic Monkeys etc. Just talking about live shows of course

lightning1000
Didn't realise you meant only r&l headliners. In that case remove editors and xx. Although give it a couple of years and xx cab be added again

Andy_47
Before last year the only headliner I was really interested in was the foos, and before going I perceived as Kasabian as being a pretty weak headliner. Completely different opinions after, foos were nowhere near as good as the first time I'd seen them (and at T for that matter). Probably just found them predictable. Kasabian were fantastic though. I agree though, this year there doesn't feel like there is a weak link.
dancelittleliar
I meant that I thought kasabian was the best Indie act RnL could possibly have booked last year. /sigh

mrtourette
As a trio definitely last year, all good bookings for different reasons and all stepped up to the plate and performed. A real strong set. 2009 was good on paper when released but at the time was a real let down. Edited March 23, 2013 by mrtourette
