Right it’s Christmas me people keep asking what I want 

I always take a double airbed and find this very comfortable as long as you add air a couple of times, it is however very heavy and as I get the bus and carry this in the rucksack of which it also takes up about half of I’d really like a lighter alternative which is just as comfy. Any suggestions greatly appreciated

Not cheap and don't know if they do a double, but Thermarests are very comfy, esp the "neo-air".

I have one (orange). The insulation is amazing. You will NOT get cold. The comfort can't be compared to a big (self)inflatable but it surprisingly works well considering the weight/amount of air in it. It's odd to sit on it, have your bum on the ground and thinking it won't work, then lie down and all the air's at the right place. Bought mine because of coaching/coming from abroad and didn't regret.

They were relatively lucky.

Long story, so I'll skip the details, but the guy I found having a bad trip at The Glade crossroads one night was eventually bundled into a security land rover, no idea what happened to him.

Mind you he had become aggressive and was attacking some of my team.

Underrated response... Pretty much the gold standard of 'affordable enough' ultralight camping gear... Affordable enough comes with a big asterix though, they're hardly cheap. 

But if I am hiking long distances to wild camp on top of one of the Dartmoor Tors, I'm taking my Thermarest matt.

One of them, a good ultralight down sleeping bag, even a cheap one like an OEX Helios EV 300, and an ultralight tent like the Vango F10 Helium UL 2... And your camping gear would barely add any weight or take up any room. Arrival day would be a breeze. 

In fact, here I am with that very set up on an extremely windy day somewhere in Dartmoor...

Will do, we'll be back on it in the spring, (I only have 3 season gear.) Dartmoor, the Lakes, Peak District... I want to do Scotland at some point too, but I have an irrational fear of ticks 🙈🤣

I also have a fear of ticks, but I don't think it's irrational. Lyme disease can be serious.

Do you know, I knew nothing about that and it's links to ticks until I heard Ren's story, and I think that's what terrifies me now.

Irrespective of the weather I never hill walk up here wearing shorts. Its long trousers tucked into socks. Most of the places I walk have lots of sheep, deer and other assorted wildlife. Can also be quite boggy and grass is long.  It’s not just ticks but also horse flies, right evil wee bastards. Oh, and the midges as well. Sensible dress is essential and there’s no problem. 
but it’s worth it when your up in the hills on a beautiful day.

Ive hiked the West Highland Way and the Speyside way in the last four years, and they're amazing - didnt have any tick action, thankfully, and even avoided any midgies as well - go in march/april/may and you'll get pretty temperate weather, in my experience. Decent set of waterproofs and you're golden!
