I know it's been debated to death but there's no reason why NIN can't handle the headline slot, don't think they've ever headlined a UK festival, they put on an awesome show, loud, heavy, Trent is a great frontman and with a decent sub (SOAD?) and an alternative headliner On another stage they'd be fine. New album this autumn too... as for others, Sabbath are touring, why not them? Linkin Park would be good but I see them as pretty devisive, they could carry it off for a more commercial option, and Metallica backed up by LoG (headlined Bloodstock this year) my picks

Friday Linkin Park

Sat NIN

Sun Sabbath/Metallica

I think Download will suffer in the big headers again this year purely because they've gone through them again and there is nothing else out there available for whatever reasons.

Metallica have been done, The Prodigy have, Sabbath have, Maiden have, Rammstein now have, Slipknot have again.

Possible out of bounds being Van Halen and Tool. AC/DC won't happen again.

You have to look at who there actually is possible. The pool IMO comes down to LP, A7X, PJ, Nickelback and I'm struggling now to think bar NIN as a possible

I think the A7X and Nickelback headliner rumours are a bit weak but it's perfectly plausible, as I wouldn't expect a Metallica, Maiden, Sabbath, Slipknot back so soon and beyond that the pool of bands is already fairly dried up. I'm pretty sure every year they try to book one of the 'mega-appeal' rock bands like Muse, Foo Fighters, Green Day etc but they always lose out to V or R/L, and if that happens again then I'd say A7X, Nickelback and someone like Tool, Pearl Jam, Biffy, Blink,or Van Halen is likely. Overall that's a weak set of headliners but it's about the best they can do from a very limited pool.

I reckon A7X could still be subs, and it probably depends on the other bands around. They'll headline if 3 of the 'bigger' bands arn't all available but DL probably already kinda knows what the situation is , especially given how early the headliners were announced last year.

Kinda wonder if Soni is gonna be back this year too - things went pretty dreadful for them the past few years but they could book bands like Metallica, Maiden, Slipknot, Prodigy, Sabbath etc who its too 'soon' for Download to book and they could do so without much competitions (Except maybe from R/L). Could very quickly have a strong line up top just from that, and while it'd ring of deja-vu for DL goers it'd look bad for DL if they're flaunting A7X, Nickelback and someone like Tool versus Metallica, Maiden and Slipknot lol.

Feel like a prediction so:

A7X

Deftones

Fall Out Boy

Frank Turner

Nickelback

Alter Bridge

Slayer

Machine Head

Tool

NIN

Disturbed

Bring Me The Horizon

Trent has gone on record in the past stating that he won't work with Livenation unless he has to ie they own a venue needed for his tour. This weekend will have pissed him off further seeing as though LN have a stake in these festivals, as well as FR.

Download have had plenty of chances to book them and haven't done yet -

2005 - European festivals + Academy tour.

2007 - European festivals, played Reading/Leeds

2009 - European festivals, played Sonispere, T, Oxegen

2013 - European festivals, played Reading/Leeds

If I was to bet, I would say Arena tour next year + T, Sonisphere & Oxegen.
