Provide your sales figures please. When you do, tell us how many are downloads too. You'll find ACDC's download figures are 0. They don't count them. As for including gig tickets as evidence that's just moronic. ACDC tour less in the UK because they are a bigger group all over the world. They sell out stadiums every time. They could sell out their tours twice over. But if you think that they aren't as big as Green Day etc then carry on, my findings are unlikely to penetrate your wacky world. As far as global sales go though, it was Mumford's USA sales that were regularly touted as justification of their ridiculous headliner status at Glasto and T this year. Go figure.

I said ACDC are the biggest band in the world. Your oft repeated point that they don't sell as many tickets as other bands in the UK is madness. You're off your trolley. The original point was that the likes of Green Day and Foos were "too big" for Download. They are not as big as ACDC in any way shape or form. I'm not going to argue with you any more. I'm off to see MacFloyd this weekend. They are clearly teh biggest and most popular band in this town. They have sold many more tickets here than any of the big bands mentioned in this thread except maybe Pink Floyd as they played the 2 Red Shoes in teh 60s. LOL etc.

The Eagles' greatest hits have, according to official figures, got 26xPlatinum certifications, 4x more than Back In Black.

This is a pointless arguement though, as there is no doubt, the likes of Muse & Green Day have sold more records in the last few years than AC/DC but they haven't sold more in the overall careers than the legends. Moreover, one could argue that if AC/DC toured as much as Muse & Foo's, they may not sell as many tickets. This isn't because they're less popular. It's because a lot of AC/DC's fan base are now a lot older than they were at the peak of the bands success, so they're less likely to be going to festivals to see them (many still do go though, I know I won't ever stop going to gigs!) - Muse, Foo's etc. all have a fan base which is primarily a younger one on the whole, so more likely to shift more tickets.

It does come down to though, without a doubt, a festival today, which has AC/DC headlining, and another festival which has Muse/Foo's or Green Day headlining, the AC/DC fest will sell out first. They are a better booking.

Back to the original argument of saying Foos/GD etc. were too big for DL (at least I think that was the original argument) is ridiculous as despite the size of other headliners they have it is the second biggest festival in terms of crowd size, yes Reading and Leeds and V combined are bigger but for single sites DL is the 2nd biggest

Foo Fighters will defo happen sometime down the line. It could very well be next year. I know they're on Mr Copping's list for sure.

Dave had a taste of Donnington playing with TCV the other year, and Taylor Hawkins also played with his group so two members have tried the festival out for size now, Id say it makes it a much more realistic chance for Foos to play, they knew what Reading was all about so they would play there, they aren't a struggling band on the way up anymore they get to pick their spots, maybe they felt before Download was too rock and not enough mainstream for them to widen their audience. I can't see they rushing to get back to V anytime soon, plus they did late summer last time over.

QOTSA have been sought after for a long time but Id say Homme playing as part of TCV had a massive influence on their decision to play Download this year instead of just Reading again.

BTW do you know Foo Fighters have never played Rock AM Ring either...

Things aren't as black and white as well if they wanted to play it they would of done already, R&L is their top priority and they didn't play that for 7 years not because they didn't want to but because they had other options. This also isn't me saying Foos want to play Donnington but I can see them wanting to add that notch to their belt.

To be fair, Reading is moreso their top priority I'd say. But they still headlined it 3 times in pretty much the same time Download has been going, they came Reading 05 3 years after 02 to be fair.

They aren't a heavy touring band though are they to add to it. I did expect the Rammstein comment to come but if they toured festivals etc quite regularly over here then I'd accept the point.

I can't believe this is up for discussion: currently Green Day, Foo Fighters and Muse are far bigger in the UK than AC/DC. And they don't act like complete tools when negotiating festival benefits, which is probably why all other UK festivals have avoided AC/DC since they played Download a few years ago.
