I agree it's only a matter of time, but equally I'd say the size / appeal / mainstream appeal of other festivals is why they haven't yet in 11 years, as no doubt DL will have wanted them for a long time No doubt it'll happen though I think, otherwise we can look forward to Metallica and Maiden coming back pretty soon lol.

On a slightly different topic, does anyone think Offspring could be a good shout for next year? I don't know they'd accept playing below headliner given they did a while back, but they're definitely not big enough anymore and did R/L last time they were here. Supposedly a new albums coming in 2014 and if bands like A7X are headlining then the sub-headliner slots need to show strong depth, and I think Offspring would be a decent way of doing that.

Are Alter Bridge big enough to sub? Or will they be third on the bill again. I found them to be quite dull last time they played not that affects where they can play. Just looked at their tour and quite a lot not sold dispite it being on sale for like forever.

You really can see a dull fest of Nickelback, Alter Bridge and Frank Turner on main stage.

I think Van Halen are headliner due to the fact they play here rarely, and they'd probably just a headliner standard. I think it's a tricky one though as they don't quite have the popularity of a Maiden or Metallica - I can only name one song by them and a lot of the 'youth' won't really know much about them like you'd expect among most headliners.

Bigger then Def Leppard though, so er yeah, headliner lol.

Not sure about A7X's new album albeit only one listen in... feels too maiden / old metally and nothing like Avenged, but maybe its a grower. Hope they headline though, as I think they'd be really good and I like pretty much every album they've released, would be a iffy booking in terms of size but I'm up for seeing a newer band give the chance to headline, has to happen at some point I guess. Problem is it looks poor if the other headliners arn't up to snuff.

Are Van Halen really that huge in this country? If you look at it per album, they've never outsold bands like MCR or Paramore in the UK, and can't even touch Nickleback (bands that people say they don't want headlining). Plus I'm really not sure anyone bar their own fans would know more than one or two songs. I'm not saying they wouldn't headline but I do think they'd be a poor choice.

Right some info in tonight which is from a different source to the Nickelback reports which have gone very quiet btw, so I really don't know whats going on there. It could be that its fallen thru, it could be that they have moved to a different fest like Hard Rock Calling it could be they aren't coming over to the UK anymore who knows, It could be they've maybe agreed to sub to one of the acts below out of respect? But at the time of the info, it was defo on the cards.

The info tonight received and its from a great source, says Download have failed trying to book NIN, but the 3 headliners they're pushing for are... Avenged Sevenfold [obviously] and the other two, one very topical on here lately... Van Halen and the 3rd... completely out the blue this one - Aerosmith.

I agree but if he has a lack of other options then you can understand him booking them. Aerosmith are a main draw though and Van Halen haven't played here in ages so again would be a huge draw but I worry about the younger audience shitting on it.

Andy knows whats he's doing though he stack the other stages to look appealing.

Personally, if those three were the headliners, they would have to come up with an impressive undercard and second stage headliners to make me part with my dosh.

No interest whatsoever in Avenged Sevenfold or Van Halen.Would probably watch Aerosmith at a push, I like them but have seen them loads of times and haven't listened to them for at least ten years.
