glasto-worker
I just hope that this year this act will stop the ticket touts time will tell http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/privbill/0708/013/08013x--.htm The ‘Reading Borough Council Act’ was passed by Parliament, and has given them new powers for the better control of street trading and touting. The main powers that the Act will give them are:- Allowing the Council to regulate services offered on the street Empowering council officers, the police and community support officers to seize goods and equipment when they believe a street trading offence has been committed Empowering courts to order the forfeiture of such goods and equipment Allowing the council to regulate touting Enabling council officers, the police and community support officers to serve fixed penalty notices for street trading offences. mrtourette
Poor sales have nearly eradicated touts over the last couple of years anyway, but definitely support (local) government intervention to try and deal with it.
glasto-worker
I am not so sure Look at the situation ticket touts initially buy tickets though the normal outlets - they could not possible be 100% if it will be a sell out or not. now I know all about how they pass tickets about so its a ' consortium of touts ' its only close to the event where it will be clear if the value is going down or up . sure they can reduce their liability before the event and the consortium may be less but there will still be some jokers hanging about on the streets. As you will be aware that there will be some genuine ticket holders that may have a spare ticket for sale so even if its not a sell out the consortium will buy for less than face value. of course if its a sell out this improves the price for the consortium. its a delicate balance and sure some years the consortium may make less than other years. of course this act is claimed will reduce the amount of stalls out on the street selling all sorts of gear. I have lost count on how many times where a tout will spot my crew { and or guest } wrist band and will offer to buy it { I presume to make copies - dead easy to do as up to now they have not been chipped } and I tell them to get lost as I don't want to compromise security. Time will tell as to how successful it is.

glasto-worker
well it all depends on how much hassle they get from the Police . now seeing I can pick out these touts while trying to walk down the road they are easy to spot and they don't hide their activities. last year my Crew coach came off the M4 and on the A33 just at the first roundabout there was a joker buying and selling as he was holding a sign up so they are still about. I am not claiming its as bad as 10/20 years ago but it has always attracted touts - they are a bloody pest. It is possible that some people are holding off buying tickets so gambling they can pick up cheaper tickets so perhaps FR should bring in a Glastonbury system so preventing tickets easily being resold. This has had a major impact on Glastonbury as that used to be full of touts as well. We will see how this act affects this year -
