Ok.... so back on topic.

I reckon Fatboy Slim will be great for Friday night. I'll be the first to admit I was hoping for someone more to my personal tastes and at first was unsure how I felt about the announcment...BUT, In terms of having a great party atmosphere, celebrating 10 years at Bestival (especially if they are gonna add bells and whistles) and also being a good representative for what Bestival is about then he'll be great. Maybe not my first choice and maybe not as "Big" as some people might like but come Friday night at Bestival, he'll bring the goods!

Just out of curiosity, why did people think Arcade Fire had been asked but fell through? Seems to be a lot of people mentioning it but I thought they weren't even going to start planning anything until after their new album.

But wasn't it a rather random attack from the other guy about a guess based on some fact (as we all do on here from time to time!)..Mr Shankly was just pointing out they might not something that's more a joke if they are not regulars....

It did seem a bit randon, but then again Mr Shankly was rather forceful in his mocking and talking down to people who thought Fatboy was an option, and I don't think it was in jest. But he ate his humble pie very well, so all's good I guess.

honestly, if this was any other festival other than Bestival, which we all love and admire, people would be tearing the place apart. imagine if V or T announced Fatboy Slim as it's final headliner. people on these boards (and elsewhere) would be having a field day right now. as much as i love Bestival, the ball was obviously dropped third-headliner wise this year, for whatever reason (the original headliner bailing definitely seems the most likely). it's a damn shame but hey, in this day and age, with more and more festivals appearing and especially with all the 'exclusivities' etc it seems like getting headliners is becoming more and more of a struggle

Well Bestival doesn't generally have headliners of the calibre of T and V (Snoop and Elton John certainly wouldn't headline those either), so of course Fatboy Slim headlined either of those there would be major dissent.

But yeah it's been the case for a number of years for festivals of all sizes that the increased competition and the desire for exclusives that the competition has lead to patchy line-ups or headliners at times.

course it is relevant, why would they have him back as a main stage headliner two years later when he's done nothing to warrant moving back up the line up? Plus he's headlined before, back when Bestival was a lot smaller & he was a lot bigger, so that's Rob's no repeat headliners rule out the window too.

Think before you jump on the defensive, yeah.

I genuinely do no know what your problem with me is. Everybody knows Rob didn't want to repeat headliners, perhaps "rule" was the wrong choice of word, but there was even an interview where he said he'd break his own no repeats policy & book Kraftwerk again because of the 3-D show & he'd book Bowie every year if he could. Plus Fatboy slim does have a "good reason" so to speak, as it's billed as a birthday bash thing.

I don't know why you've felt the need to personally single me out, whilst I've been quick to shoot down other peoples opinions on bands/billing I try my hardest not to get personal, unless I know the person reasonably well & know we can have a laugh about it. I also admitted straight away that I was wrong & that I would "eat humble pie" as I suggested I would. (Again another comment that showed I intended what I was saying in a light hearted manner. Like when I said I'd do a naked macarena at Leeds if Arctic Monkeys turned out to be the last headliner. I don't take these forums too seriously you see)

I admit I was wrong about Fatboy Slim, but I maintain the view that he isn't a good headliner. I shouldn't have shot down the people who suggested him, but I don't think that warrants you calling me out & going on a massive personal rant about me. I don't read the NME by the way, anyone who's followed my posts can see I have a varied & unlimited taste in music.

Anyway, this post is far longer than I wanted it to be & all I really care about (the same as yourself) is having a brilliant time come Bestival, so I'll see you down the front for Fatboy Slim. Hopefully I'll be proven wrong again & he'll steal the show. Peace, Love & good times, that's what it should be about. :)

I don't post a lot on efestivals but i have been a member for the last 4 years and regularly use the forum for information and to see what the general buzz is like from Bestival, Glastonbury, R+L, Download and IOW. In that time have never seen anyone talk so much shite on a topic until i started reading this one. Mr Shankly, so far if it were up to you, we'd be watching Nick Cave, Lil kim and Lionel Ritchie Headline Bestival...

You have constantly talked down to people on here and argued about things you don't know anything about.

Fatboy Slim will be great, so to quote one of your previous posts to another member, why don't you "Bore off".

Just to clarify - Norman isn't a repeat headliner. He played 2nd on the bill (back when we called it 2nd on the bill, none of this subbing nonsense. Honestly, people under 35. What are you like? Young. *sobs*) to the Jaxx. He was his usual self and had some sort of shaving setpiece going on during his set on stage.

At least I think he did. Normal 'mushrooms were legally available at the first couple of Bestival's' caveat applies.

Anyhoo, I'm very sorry that a lot of you are sad that Norman is headlining. They'll be loads else on all over the site, probably a lot of it with more credibility and chin-stroking opportunities. Meanwhile, I'll be reaching for the lasers and losing my fags. Plus ca change.

I saw fat boy slim at Rockness and he was great, he's not to my personal taste but I think it will be fun. I think its fair to say he's around the same size as pendulum but better in my opinion so the line up looks just as strong as my first time!
