Festival Virgin (if you'll excuse the pun..)

Hi

I'm going to V this year with my family (middle-aged half-blind woman and regular-gig-going teenage girl) and I was just wondering if anyone could give some general advice?

We're particular fans of Beyoncé and at the moment are planning to stand in front of the main stage for the whole of Sunday without a break in order to get the best possible view - does anything think this will be necessary or are we free to go to other stages and the loo without much risk? We're planning to go around the rest of the site on Saturday, because our interest in Kings of Leon is minimal, so we'll still have time to "take it all in" regardless of what we do on Sunday.

Also, for festival virgins and people who get grumpy with limited sleep, what would be the best campsite? In terms of availability as well. Travelling in on a coach and are due to arrive on sit about 1pm - will every campsite still be available then?

Im pretty much in the same situation but ill be at Hylands instead but ill keep talking in here

Im going with two very excitable girls, they both want to see beyonce and so we will see her but i dont think we will be staying infront of the main stage all day just to see her because we will want to see other acts too

All the TV footage from previous years seems to show the main stage absolutely rammed, but of course that's always in Essex not Staffs so I don't know how much to read into it, and of course it shows nothing of people moving around before/after acts.

Yeah true, Ive never been so I dont know how many people move away from the stage, guess we will see how many people read this and want to help

I wouldnt say its necessary at all, last year I wandered around all day and still got about 3 people back for the stone roses with just a little pushing

What time did you get back to the main stage ready for stone roses?

I watched noel gallagher, then went off to get a drink so it was literally in the half hour break or so inbetween the two, probably 15 minutes before they came on

I was in the crowd for the Stone Roses and i was fairly near the front with plenty of room to moonwalk let alone dance.

Beyonce will be like Eminem in 2011, if not busier and trust me it was rammed from back to front.

Well yes that much is obvious but the crux of my question was whether people think I should grab a spot at main stage and not give it up all day, will there still be a chance of a decent view if we only arrive at the main stage for Jessie J.

I think youll be able to get a good enough place even if you were there third from top too, I think that will the Jessie J. Maybe stay there all day but there could be good acts you would miss out on but I guess seeing Beyonce front row down come round too often. Good luck with whatever you do

If you're confident you can cut through the crowd, then you should get a fairly decent spot, as long as you got to the main stage for the third down person (not sure who that is), and as soon as the act finishes you just force your way closer as others leave for beer/toilet etc. Also another tip which can be helpful is if a circle opens (believe me, i've seen it happen for people like The Kooks) just make a mad dash right through it as you can gain some yards that way haha

I will probably be there for Beyonce, Jessie and Script tbh, last year I only spent a little amount of time in the main stage, this time looks like I will be going their a lot more often than last year

It's impossible to say with confidence until the official announcements, I'd think.

People will leave after Jessie J so you can move forward. People will leave after The Script so you can move forward Don't worry about it too much and go with the flow- standing from 12pm to 8.30pm without a wee or hot food? You'd be mad!
