Glastonbury alcohol email?

The last two years, I took in spirits which I didn't really use (in fact, I mistakenly emptied a plastic bottle of Absolute vodka to have a piss at 5am - which turned out to be a £15 piss) and cans which barely lasted the Wednesday.

This year, a bit of red wine for sipping on our walk around the site, but a nice cold beer or cider from the bar always hits the spot!

I know we all have varying budgets, but I think I budget for £200 in alcohol alone (i'm Scottish, that might be a conservative estimate!).

My old boy will take in some nice whiskey and his hip flask. Job's a good un.

If you're taking in 200 cans of lager in a sledge, it's slight overkill.

Just checked the website. No news of this there. In Info section under 'drink', still says for personal consumption only and no mention of it being wheeled in. All very strange.

If true I think they really need to clarify it.I use a sack trolley, have one crate on it (24 cans over 5 days is not much!), then tent, sleeping bag, plastic box with cooking items, are they going to say iI can't bring the alcohol in beacuse its wheeled, utter madness.

One of the things I tell my mates who go to other festivals, Glastonbury ig great as you can take all your own alcohol in.

We still buy pints on top of this. The bars will make no more money out of us as I won't be making any more trips to the bar, will just be sober!

Do you think its possible they dont want the property lock ups filling up with trollies? I wanted to take one this year to avoid the horrendous 'lets do it all in one go' trip that my lot insist on doing. Might not bother now :girlumbrage:

A lot of people are going to be in for a shock on the Wednesday morning at the gates... I got the email earlier, opened it, read the first couple of lines that said about underage drinkers and thought "I'm 25, this doesn't apply to me" and stopped reading!

What does the leaflet that you get with your ticket say? It used to have all the T&Cs listed on it (I now get a workers ticket, so not sure).

Seems a little ridiculous & unenforceable. Imagine if every Police Officer on site arrested all dope smokers. They'd never leave their compound.

On principle people should be angry about this.. but in practice it isn't really that big a deal. As we fly in every year and don't have the luxury of cars or what not we've always had to carry our own booze in and we've always managed to get completely off our tits have a good time. In reality though how much time do the majority of people spend at their tents and how much beer can they carry when going on a day excursion? Usually we leave our tents in the morning with a day pack of beer (like 8 tops?).. arrive back before night for spirits. The pyramid crowd who setup their tents to see the main stage and sit there for the entire festival and do a crate a day will be inconvenienced I guess but there can't be too many of them here.

What you say makes perfect sense and exactly what I would expect of competent, trained bar staff. However, it doesn't fit in with the email's line of "only show ID once.....you can also deposit your ID in the Lock-Ups for safe keeping"

Now, I'm not arguing with you at all as I think its better to be certain of a persons age when serving them than risk upsetting them by asking for ID even though they have a wristband.

I can see a fair few youthfull looking over 18's with wristbands getting miffed about being asked for ID even though they have the wristband as "proof" of age and have been advised by the festival that their ID could go in the lockups.

It does seem a magnificent PR cock up that has pissed off pretty well everyone. I haven't seen a thread grow this quickly on here for a long time.

When we used to go in as a group with a big trolley it carried a mix of all the heavy items from tins of beans to cans of booze. On our backs we had rucksacks full of lighter items like clothes.

I really can't see the gain in getting people to swap the contents from trolley to rucksack.

As many people have said it will penalise those who have difficulty in carrying and seems to have been an ill thought through way of defining what is considered to be an excessive quantity,

Does Glastonbury also think that it is immune to crowd disorder ? It nearly kicked off in the queue at Gate D in 2010 due ti delays (guy near me throwing full cans at security) and I have seen far less spark full on riots at Leeds festival in years gone by.

Yes, we all like to think we are nice happy people that attend Glastonbury but this does have the potential with the delays it will create abd the loss to punters to spark trouble in the queues at the gates.

There are about 200,000 punters, if this affects just a quarter of those that is 50,000 pissed of people. One person kicks off and it could go mental.

Really have dropped a bollock on this.

*Doesn't affect me this year as I don't have room for a trolley in the car. Just saying thoughts out loud.

1. Any alcohol brought onto the site must be for personal consumption only

2. No glass bottles can be brought onto the site

3. You must be able to carry your alcohol yourself, without using any wheeled devices, including trolleys, wheelbarrows and wheeled suitcases.

4. Any Alcohol which is brought to the gates using a wheeled device will not be allowed in, and may be confiscated

We hope you have a safe and enjoyable Festival.

Wonder how this will apply to people in motor homes. I don't drink alcohol at all but my hubby does and one of my friends is going by coach so we agreed to bring his alcohol and meet him on site. I'm hoping that us carrying his beer in won't classify as too much and it ends up being confiscated.
