If you look at Spotify numbers they're as big as The Cure or Pink Floyd. But they're an american band with a huge hit and Spotify is a good indicator but doesn't say everything about how many tickets they would sell in Portugal today.
Just for an example, in August I've seen Wisp (TikTok and YouTube shoegaze-emo phenomenon with constantly a few millions Spotify monthly listeners and an almost 100M hit) playing in the smallest tent at Pukkelpop in front of less than 100 spectators. But she also had a sold out show in London the day after.
Seems unfair to judge based off this line up drop. However, headliners aren’t my thing, apart from Sharon Van Etten who I think is an excellent Thursday headliner for EOTR, and the undercard generally looks fairly uninteresting at the moment when compared to recent EOTRs. However, I would expect this to change by the time the full line up is out. Mohammad Syfkhan is the only name that really excites me, but I’d be interested in seeing Lisa O’Neil, Goat, Rosali, These New Puritans and Throwing Muses as well.
For what it’s worth, I think Caribou and Father John Misty are very solid headliners for EOTR stature/size wise, even if I’m not a massive fan of either.
I will be at Green Man anyway rather than EOTR but I am an admirer of the EOTR line ups so will be following along!
