Not sure about this Suarez not scoring against 'bigger' teams. For a player who has been in essentially a mid-table side for his time in England it is pretty good.

He scored against Everton and Tottenham (twice) this season, both away? Assist against Chelsea and set up the goal against City and actually was very lively that game... This season he has only played good sides away as well as we have only had United at home, when he was suspended.

Last season he scored home and away against Chelsea as well as at the Emirates and has a fair old total in the Merseyside derby in general. He's scored and starred against better United sides in the past as well as well as scoring against City.

There won't be many that are a lot better.

No I watched the City and Chelski games and hes dived in both games. The dive vs City when he was actually getting his shirt tugged. He dived like a student would into a swimming pool while someone is taking a photo. And dived yesterday too.

Swansea, Leverkusen x2, Villa, West Ham

There have been some good performances in amongst the rubbish.

Ignoring that, Liverpool have taken less points against the other 18 teams than Man Utd have and have taken just 8 points in games against teams in the top half - ouch! Their own form isn't as good as you're making out and their lack of squad depth completely takes away any benefit from not playing in Europe.

£50 charity match bet that Liverpool do/ don't make top 4?

Any are Southampton still going to finish above Utd?

United have only take 9 points from the top half with 3 extra games at home - and 3 of those points are Hull!

The way I view this Man U liverpool thing is that Liverpool have a couple extra points with a trip to OT ahead - if we just write that off as the point gap (yes it could put Man U one point ahead but ignore that) then the two sides have the same fixture lists except 4 home / away games are reversed:

United have to travel to Everton, Newcastle, Chelsea and Arsenal whereas Liverpool play them at home.

Liverpool have to travel to Cardiff, Fulham and Norwich whereas Man U play them at home.

I think 4th place depends on whether Liverpool can get 9 points from those 3 away games - that while on the surface look like routine wins for an in form Liverpool are scattered about at a time when they play top sides at home in between them. A dip in form is entirely possible, but equally a solid home win should be easy to followup with more points after.

I really think people are making a big mistake turning the battle for 4th place into a Liverpool v man utd fight, possibly understandable with the amount of fans and media presence both clubs have. However I think Everton being in 4th place at the halfway point is no fluke. I think the last 4 seasons the 2 Merseyside clubs have finished within 3 points of each other and I have seen no evidence that this will be much different. I suspect the blue side of Merseyside will be happy for the attention to be deflected elsewhere while they quietly get on with their job.

Everton look excellent but no one is going to count them in as real contenders yet, I guess down to their squad depth. They already look light after injuries to a few key players. I think their lack of depth was exposed with the home loss to Sunderland, where Martinez tried to rotate a few and they were much poorer for it (Barkleys replacement lead to the sending off / pen?).

With January coming up it seems logical United and Liverpool are going to come out of it stronger, whereas no one really has a clue what Everton will do except probably another few loans.

I think the sunderland game was a bad day in the office like Liverpool and man utd have had. Im not sure about the squad depth argument, people have been talking for the last few years about Liverpool having a greater squad depth, but it hasn't been reflected in the end of season points total. You could argue it was Liverpool bringing on Michael smith and not everton.
